GWB: "I reject this notion.....that if you're a Muslim you can't be free..."
I reject this notion -- and I'm not suggesting that my opponent says it, but I reject the notion that some say that if you're Muslim you can't be free, you don't desire freedom." George W. Bush (10/1/04)

I guess by "some say" he means, Rush Limbaugh, Free Republic, Glenn Beck et al because they are the ones saying that if you're a Muslim you can't be free or have a democracy.

Although the same people were fine with sending US soldiers to die for Muslim "democracy" in Iraq. Or so they said.

Just sayin'

3. I noticed that he is no longer interested in politics
Probably because the obvious question is why is he willing to kill 100,000 innocent Iraqis and US soldiers for "Operation Iraqi FREEDOM" when now the right wing seems to think freedom for Arabs/Islamic people is not safe or a good idea.

13. It isn't about skin color
It's about ideology. I don't believe the West was ripe for the concept of modern democracy until after the Reformation had occurred, and broken the yoke of Catholicism that enslaved Europe without question or challenge.

19. Yes, but by your repeating it
It seems to imply that skin color, rather than enslavement to an ancient ideology was the key. Sorry if I took it the wrong way.

5. Of course but
Why is nobody in the "liberal media" calling all these conservatives on their reaction to the Egyptian protests?

Nobody is asking them, "hey aren't you glad? GWB said he was going to spread freedom and democracy in the ME look what's happening!"

9. And some say that appending 'just saying' to a posit is tantamount
to saying one cannot, or does not want to, defend what was just said.

11. I have a friend who got a sex change operation in Turkey!
I know transsexual is different from gay but I was surprised to find out this is one of the world centers for that type of operation and there is sort of a popular culture of transexual celebrities and that sort of thing.

Personally I think the problem with these countries is theocracy -- Turkey has a 90%+ Muslim population, but they don't even have the death penalty, they have a secular government.

I think if the Fundie Christians got their "Biblical America" here they would be just as bad with enforcement of what "God" wants....

14. Yes, Turkey is a bit of an anomaly with their mostly secular government, however
I have heard that there's a popular "rationale" for sex-reassignment as a kind of "cure" for homosexuality. Of course we know that's bullshit, but it explains, in a very weird way, how they can accept it. In general, though, Islam is about as homophobically bigoted as any religion can be. I find all religion repulsive but that one is right up there near the top as far as I'm concerned, there's little doubt that they would cause me to die if they could make it happen with impunity. A pox on all beliefs in imaginary gods.

17. I agree with you re: homophobic religions but
Once you mix it in with the government, that is the worst case scenario. The scary thing to me is the attack on secularism HERE....theocracies suck!!

10. Remember "Freedom is on the March!"
Now that it IS on the March it's suddenly a bad thing? I see right wingers saying "Obama lost Egypt!," lost it? Just a strange logic they are using for people throwing off a dictator without the help of the US military.
