Spring is coming .... the Great Horned Owl just hooted .... they have kids
Winter is neat and if you pay attention you can hear nature telling you that
spring is coming.

<Great Horned Owls are some of the earliest-breeding birds in North America. They breed in late January or early
February and are often heard calling to each other in the fall, starting in October. They choose a mate by December
and are often heard duetting before this time.>
from wiki

either eggs or owlets in their nests ..... hoot hoot hoot

BTW we are expecting a big snow in 2 days.

2. All that dueting has been going on outside my window
all winter long most of the night. I hope the kids keep them busy and a little quieter.

3. I am in a city and the owls are in a near by wooded ravine ....
.... so I don't hear them as much. This was their first call of 2011 ...
that I heard. I heard them in fall but not so much since then.

5. Same here but I live in the country and the ravines
have trees for them to nest in so they hoot from hill to hill. I really don't mind them. I find them sort of good company along with the other birds that live here actually cause I live alone.

4. Last year I watched the baby owl cam & the baby hummingbird cam.
It was so much fun! They were the first two sites I visisted every morning & the only sites that I kept up on my computer all day. I hope there are more bird cams this year.

That is one gorgeous owl!

7. I don't think I've ever heard them hoot this early
where I live...surrounded by forest, even.

One sure sign of Spring in my neck of the woods is the peepers. I never get tired of hearing them. :)

9. Owlets. The little ones is owlets. Little chicadees, as it were.

They are a predator bird. A raptor.
My cat is afraid of any large bird, but he will eat the little ones.
Hey, why no photo of the little ones?
I think my favorite may be the loon. I like the call they make.

10. Wow. The last owl I heard was nearly ten years ago.
I miss the hooting at night. And the owl duets, in stereo.

Yesterday a huge flock of little noisy birds landed in the forest here. I've never heard them before, and think they may have been resting here on their way to Mexico.

I live for this kind of thing.
