1. I don't get the connection between the two photos.
Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 09:40 AM by lunatica
I do see how unfortunate the first photo is with gun magazines in the 'family' section. The second photo is about 'family' too, but other than that I gon't get why it makes you angry.

29. This was actually reported on national news sometime this week.
They interviewed the store manager and he said that they use those covers if they get any complaints from customers.

4. They seem to have deemed it necessary to cover a pic of a happy
gay couple with their baby... "to protect" youngsters.

8. As I said in reply #6 it looks photoshopped to me
I'm not trying to be argumentative. It really looks like a bad photoshop job. The angle of the words doesn't match the angle of the shield

23. Plus, the shadows on the shield
don't seem to look quite right. I think this is a photoshopped job, too, and because of the angle of the writing on the shield, it's a poor one, at that.

5. The point is, the 'shield' over one and not the other.
It's ok to have scads of guns and ammo in the family section, but not okay to show two guys with a baby.

7. It was pesented in the store as you see on the right. I believe the poster wanted to show the whole
cover on the left, so you could see what was being 'shielded' from the kids.

34. There's no evidence that it's even from the same chain/store...
The gun magazine display is from 2007.

Either that, or someone is REALLY slacking off on rotating/removing outdated material from the shelves.

There are no gun mags in our local Stop & Shop. And I don't think it occured to any of the staff or management here to cover a baby picture.

28. Not the point
It's a statement that America thinks guns are a family-oriented subject, but a gay couple with a baby isn't.

ETA: The actual picture may or may not be a 'shop job but it seems fairly well established the incident in question did occur.

15. Me too,
:wtf: is it that they have to hide the guns magazines back in the books and magazine section, but think they could just stick Us Weekly right up by the registers for impulse buyers.

For the record... in the section that held the magazines..... was the Us Weekly covered?

Hint: Apples and oranges

25. Seriously? Wtf?
I guess with such a graphic photo, even kids too young to read are at risk. I mean, you've got to admit, two guys and a baby are pictured. What were they thinking when they allowed that?

As for kids who can read? Well, damn. It's practically criminal. They're going to find out Elton John has a new baby named Zachary, that David Furnish is the other guy in the photo and that the picture was taken at Elton John's house.

What will they tell children?

30. +1, but in fairness...
Those opaque sheets are used in the checkout line.
The guns mags are in the magazines aisle.

And it could be a straight couple and the tabloids would still be covered.

That was placed there specifically because Elton & David are gay, and had the audacity to adopt and love a baby.

43. oh no, no, no.
In our very conservative area, those sheets cover up the magazines (mostly tabloids) in the checkout aisles. Doesn't matter if it's a gay couple or mickey mouse.

I don't think the Us Weekly should be shielded, silly, actually. Don't get it.
But placing it beside ammo and gun unshielded mags provokes no emotion in me.
I don't think either should be shielded.
