Obama's budget director: Deficits force ''tough choices"
Budget director Jacob Lew believes the White House will need to cut important programs, due to deficits:

President Barack Obama's budget director says the White House is making "tough choices" in preparing its new budget plan.

Jacob Lew says cutting overall spending while putting more money toward new initiatives means reducing spending for programs that the administration supports.

As an example, Lew says a Great Lakes environmental cleanup and protection program will be cut by 25 percent. Also being cut: block grants for community development and for community service.

Lew writes in Sunday's New York Times that the economy and job creation won't get the boosts they need if the U.S. is saddled with growing deficits.

4. Sorry, we are not cleaning up the Great Lakes now in order to supply the occupation.
Try again in another Administration.

5. Like anyone didnt see this coming
Obama is so fucking pathetic. There is so much waste in our government, billions and billions of dollars in pointless defense spending and corporate subsidies, but god forbid we actually cut the stuff that could really fix our deficit. No instead we are going to fire public employees, reduce their wages, and end public programs designed to benefit everyone and somehow that will have a positive effect on the economy.

He is literally saying that the way to fix our economy and unemployment problem is to fire a bunch of people. I literally dont think Obama understands the basics of logic. If you increase the unemployment rate by firing public employees and reduce the money that they have to spend by cutting their wages you are hurting the economy not helping. He has bought into the right-wing narrative on this issue and it makes me fucking sick.

10. Why are "tough choices" always those that hurt the poor?
Just once it would be nice to see someone making "tough choices" about something that benefits the ruling class.

11. The Ruling Class will always choose to cut benefits for the lower class.
I realize that your statement was rhetorical.

So they always win.

14. These sacrifices would sound a lot more bearable...
... if we hadn't, you know, just extended tax cuts for people at the very top of the income distribution.

After doing that, the administration has no moral standing to insist on cuts for everyone else.

17. I have a great idea...How about some tax cuts for the very wealthy?
A good idea is a good idea ...right? Doesn't everyone want to get a trickle?
