Ohio Class Replacement Moving Forward

The Defense Acquisition Board endorsed replacing the current 14 Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarines as they reach the end of their service life with 12 Ohio replacement submarines, each comprising 16, 87-inch missile tubes, in a acquisition decision memorandum.

Imagine a whole fleet of submarines exploring the oceans, mapping underwater features, observing deep-sea life, looking for clues to our origins and for new ideas on how life began, how it functions, and how to maintain it. Cures for cancer, new methods of food production, maybe even a deeper understanding of the basic cellular level of life could all be lurking down there.

Yeah, we need a military because there are people in other places who aren't nice people, but that doesn't explain the scale of our military or spending. We want a military to create our empire, to control other nations, to steal their resources, and to avoid having to consider the needs of other people in diplomatic negotiations. If we just grew up a little as a nation, we could halve our military and do great things for the world.

Sorry, I must have fallen asleep there. I think I was dreaming.
