NPR said that if Assange is extradited to the U.S. he might be sent to Guantanamo...
....

Why the HELL does the United States of America have an offshore prison camp designed to make un-convicted political prisoners disappear?

This is pure, 100% banana republic kind of stuff.

America is supposed to the shining standard bearer of a country ruled by law.

We have devolved into a republic ruled by bananas.

I hang my head in shame at what we have become.

4. NPR said that was what Assange's *lawyer* said.
Assange is no more likely to visit Guantanemo than I am. Do you know when the last new prisoner was accepted there?

8. Not impossible, but unlikely
I agree that the fact that Guantanamo remains in operation is (or should be) a source of national shame.

As for Assange, though, at this point he has too many supporters for the Administration to try something that stupid. There would be worldwide outrage over a move like that.

9. Another empty chair at next years Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony?
How would that be for an irony?

BTW, is Assange actually nominated, or was it just a publicity stunt? I heard that the nomination was one day too late -- did they make an exception for him?
