Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps plans to ask law enforcement to investigate a “half-dozen” Omaha voters who allegedly attempted to cast ballots twice in last month’s recall election.
Phipps said those people did not succeed in voting twice in the Jan. 25. election, in which Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle narrowly avoided being recalled from office.
The half-dozen voters cast ballots early, before Election Day, Phipps said. But he said their attempts to vote at polling places, as well, were thwarted because records indicated they had voted early.
As a result, he said, poll workers made them vote provisionally, with their sealed ballots set aside with other provisional ballots until officials could examine each one. He said the duplicate ballots were rejected and thus were not included in the final vote tally.
Omahans rejected the recall by 2,310 votes, according to the final, official count.
