City Bans Smokable Incense And All Smoking Devices
City Bans Smokable Incense And All Smoking Devices

CORPUS CHRISTI - At Tuesday's city council meeting, city leaders banned the selling of all smokeable incense that cause a marijuana-like high, as well as the sale of devices like pipes.

At least one local smoke shop owner says the new ban will put her out of business.

Kim Davis of Mr. Nice Guys says, "It is going to hurt us tremendously."

For many years, smoke shops like hers have walked a careful line regarding the sale of controversial products like pipes and other smoking tools.

Tuesday, the city council opted to vote in the new ordinance banning the sale of K2 and Spice, but the ordinance didn't stop there.

"We came to city hall to talk about the K2 ban and it turns out that there is no longer a pipe, or chillum, or water pipe or anythying to be sold in Corpus Christi anymore," said Davis.

1. I'm sorry but I fail to understand
the outrage in this and why anyone needs to fill their lungs with anything but oxygen.

I fail to see why people do a lot of things - drinking, coffee, soda - should we ban those too? (nt)

5. So we should just ban all devices that are used to partake of a legal substance, tobacco?
Why not ban things like shot glasses then, or drink mixers, or other such devices. Just because you don't like the smoking of a legal substance doesn't mean that others don't, and the devices used to smoke tobacco shouldn't be banned.

6. I've buried a father and a brother,
both heavy smokers of that legal substance and both going to their graves with lungs clogged with tar and tumors. It's not easy watching someone slowly suffocate.

7. And I've buried an uncle who drank himself to death,
Not to mention a father who smoked himself to death. But again, should be ban devices that enable the consumption of those legal substances? Do you really want to go down that road? Where does it stop? This week we ban pipes, next week shot glasses, the week after spoons (because God knows, there are millions who are eating themselves to death).

Sorry, but this sort of nanny state bullshit is just that, bullshit. If the substance in question is legal, such as tobacco, then you shouldn't be banning the devices to consume such substances, otherwise we're going down a real slippery slope real quick.

18. Me too, but it is a choice, a personal choice.
Your father and brother made a personal decision, KNOWING the risks. My father and Grandfather are also victims of that choice, but who is anyone to take away that choice?

Let's just make everything illegal. Actually, let's just lock everyone up. Much easier to control them.

10. You can't legislate good decision-making.
If people want to send themselves on a rocket-ride to an early grave, there's really nothing we can do to stop them. People will do what they want to do, they don't want other people's help and some will even be enormous pricks about it. That's thousands of years of humanity, and we can't alter it.

Lindsay Lohan - perfect example. Out of rehab, back to LA's Club/Slut/Drug scene, back into rehab, auto-repeat. Think she's going to learn her lesson in jail if she's found guilty of felony grand theft? She won't. This comedy act trainwreck is not going to change, ever, and she doesn't want to. She's been given miles more chances than you or I would have been given, but she's just going to do whatever the fuck she wants. And if it means not making it out of her 30s, so be it.

Learning from other's mistakes . . . well, where's the fun in that?

Which is why we should immediately ban all sales of drinks that are not 100% H20.

23. The DU health police nanny staters will enjoin any smoking ban
But look closely, this one has exactly NOTHING to do with health, and everything to do with marijuana prohibition and the political demonization of marijuana users.
