Tamer Hosni singer who went on the wrong side of the revolution saying Mubarak was the father of Egypt. Then changed his tune, tried to ride on the back of the revolution. Snuck into Tahrir yesterday where angry protesters surrounded him near the Museum entrance. He was forced out I hear. I dunno, I went to bed thinking fuck him.

Labor, professional protests join popular uprising
Jano Charbel
Wed, 09/02/2011 - 13:32

Egypt is currently witnessing unprecedented labor and professional unrest in parallel to the popular uprising which has swept through the country since 25 January.

...

One face of protests on Tuesday was state media organization protests. Around a kilometer away from Tahrir Square, some 500 employees protested outside the headquarters of the state-owned Rose al-Youssef newspaper and magazine. Protesters denounced the operational and editorial policies of their editor-in-chief Abdallah Kamal and administrative chief Karam Gaber, both of whom have waged pro-regime and anti-uprising coverage.

Another protest involving around 200 journalists was staged outside the Journalists' Syndicate in downtown Cairo, where protesters demanded the recall of the syndicate's president Makram Mohamed Ahmed, a member of the ruling National Democratic Party and vehement advocate of Mubarak.

Meanwhile at the headquarters of state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper, Egypt's largest daily, around 500 print-shop employees protested demanding full-time contracts, benefits and bonuses. They continued their protest on Wednesday.

Egyptian Activist Known as 'Sandmonkey' Reveals Identity After Police Beating
Mahmoud Salem: Egyptian Police Record, Leak Torture Videos Because They 'Operate on Fear'

BY LEE FERRAN
Feb. 7, 2011

After he said he was beaten by police, a popular Egyptian blogger has revealed his identity and his role in posting dozens of graphic videos showing police beating and torturing their victims.

" horrific stuff and they like to take pictures and video of it and showcase it to other people," Mahmoud Salem, author of the blog "Rantings of a Sandmonkey," told ABC News. "They have those videos to terrorize people... Our police operates on fear. It doesn't recognize or respect the law."

In one of the videos, a woman in pain as she hangs from a pole by her wrists and legs. She was left there for a day, Salem said.

But while videos reportedly showing police beating suspects are not uncommon, it was the alleged murder of 28-year-old Khaled Said at the hands of police -- and the widespread publicity the man's death received online with the help of activists bloggers like Salem and tributes on Facebook -- that "fueled this revolution" in Egypt, Salem said.

"Khaled Said caused a huge outrage in Egypt," Salem said of the man who was allegedly beaten to death by police in broad daylight in June 2010. "If you've seen the picture of what they've done to him, it was the most brutal thing I have ever seen... This caused an outrage in Egypt but nothing happened. This is what fueled this revolution more or less. The fact that there are no rights and no accountability. You could kill a guy and not get punished. You cannot have that."

Egypt protesters fear revenge if Mubarak holds on
By DIAA HADID and HADEEL AL-SHALCHI, Associated Press
Wednesday, February 9, 2011

An Egyptian anti-government demonstrator gestures as she stands in front of a burned
police vehicle destroyed during last week's clashes with the police in Tahrir Square,
the center of anti-government demonstrations, in Cairo, Egypt, Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011.
A sense of normalcy began to return to the capital of some 18 million people, which
has been largely closed since chaos erupted shortly after the protests began on Jan. 25.

(02-09) 03:58 PST CAIRO, Egypt (AP) --

The trappings of a determined protest movement — chanting, flags and raised fists — fill Tahrir Square, the hard-won enclave of those who seek a new Egypt. But some there fear an enemy in their midst.

After the initial euphoria over their defiance of a state once thought impregnable, protesters are increasingly uneasy that President Hosni Mubarak or leaders he has chosen may hang on to power.

If they do, there is a growing fear that the entrenched regime will try to exact revenge in the way it has done so many times before — mass arrests and abuse of detainees.

Many in Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the protests in Cairo, have noticed some in the crowds who look out of place. They hold mobile telephones aloft, recording video of the panorama. The protesters suspect these are undercover police documenting who is attending the protests and fear that if they don't win far-reaching concessions soon, an emboldened security establishment will identify and round them up, one by one.

This should be read from start to finish.

The west clings on to the old Arab order at its peril
Arabs across the region are ready for life after the autocrats. If the west remains reticent, they will look elsewhere for support

'In every corner of the Arab world there is the open appreciation that this is a moment when the world has changed' Photograph: Felipe Trueba/EPA

...

This is a new generation that does not see its own society and the world in the same way that many in the west do. I was in Tunisia during the overthrow of Ben Ali and western analysts were telling me that Tunisia was a one-off and that a country such as Egypt was completely different, with a too-strong security apparatus. Now, analysts are saying that the Egyptian example simply cannot happen in Yemen (because the society is too tribal), that it can't happen in Syria because Bashar al-Assad is not as reviled as Mubarak, and so on.

...

This isn't just about the buzzwords of democracy, human rights and free and fair elections. It is about hard-nosed calculations of where our interests in the Middle East lie in the next 30 years. Make no mistake, while this new emerging generation in the Arab world aspires to the western ideal of an open and free life, they have grown up in societies and economies where slowly but tangibly, countries such as Russia, India, South Africa and most prominently China are starting to do business and woo the young entrepreneurs, bureaucrats and diplomats of the Arab world.

A question that has been asked in a whisper around the Middle East in the past five years has been: why always wait around for the west when we have the Chinese knocking on our doors, who don't make us jump through one hoop after another. Just look at where China has got a foothold recently – it's an oil producer in Iraq and Sudan, it has huge interests in Iran and it's heavily engaged and drilling for oil in Ethiopia. I've even met Chinese businesspeople and technicians in northern Pakistan, and on a beach on the Red Sea in northern Somalia, barely three hours' sail from Yemen.

China is gaining firm footholds in the region, and will continue to do so unless we realise that the game is completely and utterly over for those leaders we have relied on for the past 30 years. This new generation will not forgive us for continuing to hanker after aged autocrats whose time is clearly up, instead of going after this new generation who will rule this region. From the Arab perspective, it sometimes looks and feels like the US and its European allies are losing their Middle East hegemony in a fit of absentmindedness.

Do let these people to stain the Square

I am so so so happy that our people in Al Tahrir are not letting those pseudo celebs to enter the Al Tahrir square , we do not want to stain with their lies and hypocrisy.

First of all Amr Adib claimed yesterday that he entered the square and the people were overwhelmed and happy with him and that he made a tour in the square. “In fact what showed in the footage yesterday in his Al Hayat 2 show and according to this footage that he did not go too far at all in the square”

Amr Adib was not let in to the square , in fact he was forced to leave along with his crew. Adib did not mention this at all , on the contrary he claimed that he had a hero welcome !!

Amr Adib expulsion from the field of editing. Mp4

...

We know now that those celebs who used to cry and swear by Mubarak’s life are jumping from the regime’s sinking boat and are trying to get in to the Al Tahrir wagon , they think that it is a cake and that they can take a piece of it. They know that they can lose a lot in the new era and they are right , we will not believe their lies and hypocrisy anymore because unlike them about 350 have been killed by the Mubarak regime and their hypocrisy.

And here's good old Tamer Hosni, crying now that he sees he was on the wrong side.
