The DLC is shutting its doors after 25 years?!?!

Centrist Democrat think tank linked to Clinton to fold
http://blogs.marketwatch.com/election/2011/02/08/centrist-democrat-think-tank-linked-to-clinton-may-fold/

The Democratic Leadership Council is expected to shut this week after a 25-year run. The organization has long touted itself as a proponent of “new” Democratic thinking and a “third way” between hardcore liberalism and staunch conservatism.

The DLC reach its heyday in the early 1990s, becoming an intellectual home for many “New Democrats” such as former House Leader Richard Gephardt, ex-vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, former Vice President Al Gore and, most famously, President Bill Clinton.

After the rise of Reagan Republicanism in the early 1980s, the DLC was formed in 1985 to pull Democrats back to what the group viewed as the political center. It focused on appealing to middle-of-the road voters wary of the liberal excesses of the 1970s and 1980s. The DLC was seen as more supportive than party liberals toward free trade and free markets and it took a more skeptical view of many government social programs.

...

The potential demise of the DLC would come just months after moderate Democrats suffered terribly in the fall congressional elections. The so-called Blue Dog Democrats lost nearly half their 46 members, mostly in the South and Midwest.

4. article stats that the PPI (Progressive Policy Institute) is taking its place and doing well
Progressive? PROGRESSIVE???

There ain't one fucking split atom of anything progressive when it comes to DLC corporate whores or their satan-spawned offshoots.

10. PPI has been around since 1989
It started out as the think tank for the DLC. However, they split off in the Spring of 2009. My quip was that DLC was just rebranding themselves as PPI. The HTML title for their website is "Progressive Policy Institute: Defining the Third Way." They also operate the website ProgressiveFix.com which bills itself as "The place for pragmatic progressives."

7. Don't worry though. The DNC has simply
assimilated the DLC and now the thought patterns are the same.

8. yep, might as well close up since their work is done
there's no longer a liberal wing of the party to fight against. Kennedy and Wellstone are dead, Feingold is defeated and Repiblicans rule the House. Dean and Jackson are on the outside and barely audible.

17. mission accomplished
If only we knew how to rise up like the Egyptian people. But we type away at our keyboards and when the time comes, beg "don't tase me bro" while others look on.

6. Only technically
A more cynical view is that they've simply rebranded as "Third Way".

Orgaizational paperwork changed, pro-corporate and pro-wealth policies remain.

16. They've WON. The Democratic party has been TAKEN OVER.
And didn't the PNAC just fold up its tent a couple of years ago?
Same deal.

When you sucessfully complete your mission and have captured the platrom you sought to co-opt, you simply matriculate into your new position as leaders in the organization you once sought to kill.
