Obama, Inc. - Hightower
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2011/02/08-2

With Daley and Immelt on board, our president is waltzing with the devil.

When you dance with the devil, never fool yourself into thinking that you're leading.

That would be my 50-cents-worth of advice to President Barack Obama as he remakes his presidency into a Clintonesque corporate enterprise. Following last fall's congressional elections, he immediately began blowing kisses to CEOs and big business lobbyists, and he's now filled his White House dance card with them.

First came Bill Daley, the Wall Street banker and longtime corporate lobbyist. In early January, Obama brought him to the White House ball to be his chief-of-staff, gatekeeper, and policy coordinator.

1. Thanks... I think Jim Hightower is the best progressive writer.
He writes in an entertaining, folksy style, but always about serious and important subjects, including some things that I never read about anywhere else, even on DU. I wish everyone would subscribe to his Hightower Lowdown newsletter just to support him financially, even though most of the stuff he writes is usually available to read online free, he deserves our support. http://jimhightower.com

2. ''When you dance with the devil, never fool yourself into thinking that you're leading.''
Mr. Hightower has a way with a phrase, makes the truth stick.

Whatever happened to that New Deal for the 21st Century, anyway?

6. As a regular dance partner
As a regular dance partner of the pro-republican "independent" Kinky Friedman in Texas politics Hightower should try following his own advice once in a while.

8. Of course Kinky supports equal rigthts for those Obama says
lack God's sanctification. He supports a woman's right to reproductive choice. He is opposed to the death penalty in an imperfect system. He favors the decriminalization of marijuana, higher pay for teachers, arts education...
So I guess if it was Kinky v Barack, I'd have to go with the one who does not calmly speak about his community as superior to others in the eyes of God and the law. All the quotation marks around words do not alter the fact that Obama is way more in line with the GOP on many issues than Kinky is. Many. And he's a "Democrat"! One man, one woman, God is in the mix!

10. No, Not Party before Principle, But Kinky is not a principle
He was a sorry excuse for a candidate that Hightower ought to have known better than to back. Many of us were very upset with Hightower over that endorsement. Kinky was and is for Kinky, not the people of Texas.

16. Jim Hightower is not afraid of the Texas far right mafia.
he and Molly Ivins made progressive politics a reality in Texas. I appreciate his writing and have most of his books,to boot.Even after several years, his writings ring true.
Don't hate him because of Kinky. he's right the other 99% of the time. (I was on Bill White's election campaign, fyi)
