This is really a shame. I've never missed a one of these. Showcasing the solar houses right in front of the U.S. Capitol made for a dramatic display. The crowds grew every year. The Solar Decathlon is the best government program ever.
Coincidentally, I walked or bicycled to every one of these. National Harbor, though, is far from frequent public transit. I guess I'll miss this one.
SOLAR: Book festival takes engineering competition's place on Nat'l MallE&E News PM

The Solar Decathlon engineering competition is moving down the Potomac River from the National Mall this year to National Harbor in Maryland, a spokeswoman for student participants said today.
The possible move comes less than a month after the Department of Energy and the National Park Service jointly decided to relocate the popular competition off the mall and one day after the displaced decathletes found out that the Library of Congress had secured the decathlon's place on the mall for a two-day book festival.
DOE officials insisted today that no final decision has been made on where this year's Solar Decathlon will go, but a spokeswoman also did not leave the door open for the competition's return to the 684-acre mall. The movement of the decathlon was deemed necessary by NPS and DOE officials as a way to help preserve the park.

"I'm sure that National Harbor is a beautiful place, but it's not accessible. It's not the footstep of our national government where national policy is made," said Elizabeth Neigert, a decathlete with the team from the Southern California Institute of Architecture and the California Institute of Technology who is leading efforts of student participants to return the competition to the mall.
