It is way past the time for the Federal Government to start a jobs program
Right now we have an employment crisis. We have millions of Americans who have been unemployed for 1 or more years. We have Americans who either has lost or will lose the unemployment benefits. We have multi-national corporations making billions of dollars in the US but they will not hire American workers.
When the private sector can not or will not hire workers it is the duty of our government to provide for the General Welfare of it's people. Instead we have our government bailing out the banks, cutting taxes on the wealthiest Americans and corporations that makes billions of dollars in profits not paying a dime in taxes. There are even some members in Congress talking about cutting Medicare and Social Security benefits. How is this helping the average American citizen?
It is time for our government to start a public works program. We have crumbling and outdated infrastructure. There is plenty of work that needs to be done in and for our country but I don't see the will to do it from our elected leadership. If a program is started it has to have a buy American clause in it. It does us no good if all of the equipment use is being made in China.

1. It's too late.
He should have done a major jobs program (not the pittance which was passed) at the very beginning. Now the dems are out of power and it would just be lip service.

2. Won't be done as long as Republicans control the House...
Maybe in 2013, unless they still control the House, and perhaps the Senate, and...

5. Nothing is going to be done or can be done now in the Congress.
Until the progressive wing of the Democratic party can yell loud enough to get a new Congress and Senate elected, NOTHING is going to be accomplished toward the goals desired to take this country into a positive direction for all the people. They also are going to have to make enough clamor to push the President out of his centrist, big business mode of thought, attitude, and action. The "leaders" in Washington now are worthless.

8. Big Business does NOT Need American Workers
What would happen if it really sank-in that any notions about a return to the "old" business model in America and increasing employment are simply naive illusions that serve no purpose other than to forestall what is required to change the system that created the problem?

Pay attention to the fact that Corporations are doing extremely well and are clearly leveraging their windfalls and increasing their influence on the entire system, nationally and globally. Politics has largely capitulated to their demands and requirements. The nature of the beast is very clear. All you will ever get is well-crated public relations, (if that) to manage the perception of the takeover. Ruthlessness is not about negotiation and asking corporations to do anything that does not equate with bottom-line profits is not only futile, it is embarrassingly child-like and, in the end, will be seen as nothing more than surrender to what, realistically, be called a new brand of Fascism.

What might look like a business-like, civil handshake, could even turn, quite rapidly into a brutal, relentless, iron fist, if necessary. Watch it reach out to grab the people of the world by their throats. Watch the insatiable, (there will never be enough) fat hand that taketh grow stronger each day as it forges a dystopia that will make Orwell and other authors look like author's of books for grade-schooler's.

12. I have been out of work for over a year
im 53 and no one wants an older worker even though Im qualified. Insurance fees and lower wages mean the younger people get the jobs. We have become slaves to CorpoRats and that is not going to change until we have our own Liberation Square in front of the White House. Our government has abandoned the middle and lower class and we must fend for ourselves. I hoped this would change with Obama. I was wrong.
