The weird, failed Planned Parenthood "sting"
James O'Keefe-style undercover "prostitute" hoax at multiple clinics implodes when the authorities are contacted

Between Jan. 11 and Jan. 15, five separate Planned Parenthood clinics received mysterious visits from men who claimed to be involved in underage sex-trafficking. This meant, obviously, that someone was trying to pull a James O'Keefe-style "sting," in which deceptively edited Internet videos would prove that some organization dedicated to providing services to the poor or otherwise non-privileged was in fact engaged in high crimes and conspiracy against freedom.

4. I don't 'get' why RW jokers have such an issue w/PP
It's nothing more than affordable gynecological care for low income women. No different then a normal OB-GYN office. What is all the hoopla about?

5. Our Planned Parenthood does not do abortions, but the
Christian right has been spreading the lie that they do.

21. I know, I know. It's too much to ask them to be morally consistent about anything
I like that description of them. It is quite apt.

23. We are all inconsistent to some degree, but we need to
ask if the inconsistency is harmful in any way.

25. Yeah, you're right
I'd say in their case, it is 99.999999999999999% of the time. What I'd like to see happen is for them to just get a life and leave the rest of us the hell alone! I've never quite understood how the abortion clinic protesters and anti-choice/anti-gay marriage activists have so much time to dedicate to their causes and I don't know what kind of sense of pride, purpose, and accomplishment they feel at the end of the day over advocating for government to intervene in people's bedrooms, marriage ceremonies, and doctors offices. I know that we have our causes too- with the crucial distinction being that most of the causes we tend to support serve to make society better for everybody (i.e. the environment, economy).

If sex is only for making babies, what does Planned Parenthood do?

6. PP gets tax money. PP performs abortions. Do the math!
That's what this "sting" effort is about.

Getting federal funding pulled like they got it pulled for ACORN.

11. Ok. I stand corrected
although I know for a fact that none around here provide abortions. But even if some in other areas do, so what? It's really no one else's business.

Ironic how most Republicans so dislike 'government interference' into their personal lives, however butt-ing their noses into women's healthcare choices are ok? :grr:

14. My pet peeve is objecting to tax money used for abortion services, while supporting
tax money used for bombs dropped on people's heads.

To me, THAT's inconsistency to the point of hypocrisy.

8. It's because of their deep-seated hatred for women, it seems to me
and why is that?

I don't know. maybe because their opinions and outlook on life are so odious to women who know them that no decent female would give them the time of day.

maybe they have a fetish for "female parts" because they have so little access to them.

maybe they should set up sites to buy used female undies and lie back in their basements like opium addicts and inhale the molly bloom and dream of what they will never know.

women will never want to bear their children because women do not want to have relationships with men who think their lives are so inconsequential women should have to die to satisfy some pervert's idea of god.

it's sort of like pedophile priests and their enablers ranting about women. they hate them too.

20. my reply was somewhat facetious
...but, yes, females also participate in the oppression of other women.

this is the sad reality of life.

if someone thinks that abortion is wrong - by all means that person should not have one.

if those same people were as adamant about the need for safe, affordable and easy-to-access birth control, I would be a little more sympathetic to their pov. But since I have never seen this as part of the anti-choice crowd's concerns - the reality of their position is that they want to impose their ideas of how people should behave upon others.

this includes forcing women to give birth when they are not in positions to do so.

this includes preferring to kill an adult female rather than allow medical services that contradict their povs. And, it seems to me, any god would find such a position hateful in the extreme.

they want to, essentially, play god with women's lives.

24. The PP office in our city often has repukes protesting in front.
They haven't performed abortions in YEARS.
Doesn't stop the mouth-breathers from trying to convince people they do.

Providing affordable gynecological care for low income women is a horrible crime when you hate women and poor people.

One can only hope that they don't suffer the same fate as ACORN and/or Shirley Sherrod.

Also, PP might've fallen into their trap somewhat by being quick to fire a staff member featured in the videos. I'm all for accountability for workers whom are not behaving appropriately but, unfortunately, in situations like this, firing somebody in a knee-jerk fashion gives a fig leaf of credibility to the smears (OTOH it does help diffuse a bad situation quickly). Of course, PP acted proactively once this "actor" started visiting their clinics by alerting the authorities and making it clear that they thought that this was a likely hoax (but acted correctly even if they had thought otherwise).
