2. I live four blocks off the Plaza and ten miles from everything else.
I have no need for one.

5. I'm hopelessly uncoordinated.
I can ride a bike but just barely. I'd kill myself trying to commute on one. I try to walk places whenever I can, though.

6. That depends
Is my boneheaded city council going to take the last remaining lanes of the main drag and make them bike lanes, too? Nobody uses the ones that are there now, put in recently at considerable expense in a 4 lane resurfacing project that creates car accidents and peak traffic bottlenecks. But to the council members that will probably just make an unbreakable argument for designating all the lanes bike lanes.

18. Relax. Your city probably just got some federal money that can only be spent on bike facilities
Hell, even Amsterdam doesn't reject car culture.

9. No. Current ride is long wheel base recumbent, at the low end of the
price range for them.

Looked at an upgrade last week, Miz O rolled her eyes at me. I think it's best to hold off awhile before getting it.

12. i couldn't live WITH it
i still kept on with it even after husband's YOUNGER and more athletic colleague was killed on his bike, and no one ever arrested for the hit and run, but eventually i had a severe enough accident to get a "wake up" call

these things are not safe and not stable, and daring the grim reaper to come carry me off is pretty damn stupid to save a few bucks on gas...

other than the guy being flat out run down and murdered on his bike, the accidents i've had and known others to have on bikes are not as awful as the ones i've known people to have on motorcycles but they still don't belong on roads that don't have bike paths, you are gambling your leg or your life to save on gas money? talk about penny wise pound foolish!

14. I'll stop riding on the roads when my tax dollars stop subsidizing them
Fair enough?

As for the risk, I guess it just depends on what roads you use and your style of riding.

I've managed 20+ years of road riding nearly every day and don't have a scratch on me.

My anecdotal evidence conclusively trumps yours.

I now have a bike, and I ride it frequently, but if it disappeared I'd get over it.

19. I would like a bike. Almost bought one last year. Only problem is.
I aint got nowhere to ride it.
This is a sprawling area and either I'm hauling something heavy or travelling with the dogs. Bikes are not a dog friendly mode of transport.

21. Dogs love to run along beside bikes!
Just make sure you see any squirrels before they do.

If they're on a leash that can be a problem.

23. I thought about getting a doggie trailer. There's another $600.
Let me clarify, there's places to ride a bike for fitness. Or I can go mountain biking.
It's just that I'd rather go kayaking. At least that's something I can do with the dogs.

22. In these parts, they're not people-friendly, either.
The roads have no shoulders. There are very few bike paths. Passersby like to throw stuff at cyclists--if they even see them.

20. That's the only way one can live in my area.
Transportation-wise, that is. In my town, cyclists are used as target practice. So are pedestrians. They're always getting creamed.

26. Could I live without them? Sure. Do I want to? No. Why? Whistler and the North Shore.

Not to mention the local trails - not much here in South Florida, but it's better than nothing. Central Florida gets better and Snowshoe isn't TOO far away....
I've been broke as hell the past few years and haven't been on a trip since before my divorce. I'm hoping my new job will allow me a trip to Vancouver this summer.
