Hotels for dogs
Last night on the news in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) my granddaughter and I watched as it was announced that there is a new dog hotel that is open. From what I understand your pampered pet can stay one night or many depending on the vacation that you selected.

My granddaughter is fully aware of the families and the homeless children out on the streets and living in their cars that can't afford a place to live or three meals a day. She remarked to me grandpa with all these empty buildings we have in our town can't we give them a place to live? In all my infinite wisdom as a grandfather I didn't want to tell her, although I know the truth.

I didn't want to tell her that from the time you get up in the morning till the time you go to bed at night it's all about the fucking money. And it's all it will ever be about.

1. The realization that profit drives everything is one of the most jarring, depressing
realizations ever. It's even worse, I think, that getting your heart smashed. Sweet granddaughter.

8. But it isn't all about profit.
Because so much of what is done destroys profit and profit potential. There is more profit to be had in allowing homesteading in abandoned housing than there is in letting neighborhoods go to rack and ruin while buildings decay from lack of care.

If profit were the only motive, slaves on board ships bound for the Americas would have been better treated so that they could be sold hale and hearty for good money upon arrival. Animals being brought to the New World were treated as good as they could be. But something else is going on. An hysterical over-justification for bad behavior to cover the guilty knowledge that this is NOT what good men do.

If profit were indeed the only motive, it would be much easier to sell projects that benefit neighborhoods and communities, and ensure the well-being of the nation.

9. True. Though profiteers tend to be very short-sighted in their rush
Good points Aquart, especially the one about "An hysterical over-justification for bad behavior to cover the guilty knowledge that this is NOT what good men do."

That's food for thought tonight.

2. It is not about money for me, if it was I would be working in some job
where people are abused, hurt, ripped off, treated without respect, and used for luxury of a few.

I am however due beer and travel money, and many experiences.

7. Every little bit counts... We need to remember that sharing our
resources is possible. We don't have to be as greedy as those who make some children sleep on the street, cars, etc...... Just remind them to share.... We sadly have to many greedy kids who never learned to share.....

11. They used to be called 'kennels'
"Dog hotel" is just a euphemism to make people who leave their dog in a kennel to feel less guilty about it.
