Walk like an Egyptian: Let's get started.

This thread says it all:

Egypt started with a Facebook page. I will happily start one -- give me a name and I will start it today.

The demands/focus: do not balance the budget on the backs of the People while enriching the elite. Good? Bad? Different/better frame?

Pick a date. Nationwide protests. No speakers, no permits, just direct action. I walked with tens of thousands of others in polite, orderly, permited marches and got all but ignored. Meet and march to Federal buildings, Wall Street, representatives offices, the Capitol, the White House -- engage in mass, non-violent civil disobedience such as sit-ins, traffic disruption, handcuffing to fences, mass arrests. Rinse and repeat until they get a fucking clue.

We need a list of other groups/orgs who we need to get onboad. Name'em.

Anything else to add?

Hell Hath No Fury

1. Lets start with Scott Walker in Madison.... He has left me a doubled
health care deductible. Now he is demanding his budget be balanced on the back of the state workers... The nurses, teachers etc... Let's find out how much he is going to personally give up to balance the budget.... Health care, pay, how much of his pension . And let's find out who is paying to chauffeur his children everyday from Madison to Milwaukee? Is it the tax payers?

9. Is this really happening?
His children are being chauffeured to Milwaukee every day? Is it for school? How old are they?

My daughter and her roommate live in Madison and are caught up in this. My daughter may have to make her own health care contributions and pay into the pension from her salary. She will have to leave the state. She cannot afford to live there if this happens.

Her roommate is a dissertator. That means she almost has her PhD, She is now going to have to pay back all her tuition rebates. She can't leave the state at this point, but she can be bankrupted just because she is not a rich person whose daddy can pay for her education.

My daughter has been told that if any of them take any job actions, like missing work, they will be fired. If they miss three days of work in a row, they are fired.

Madison has a history of activism. It's time to get busy, Madison.

P.S. Do you have a link about this chauffeuring?

will actually be taken up in Congress? We need a date that preceeds or is simultaneous to that.

10. Could we start closer to home?
I have been tasked with creating a local (San Jose area) response to the draconian budget cuts proposed by Gov. Brown. (Doesn't it make you feel better to be screwed over by a Dem instead of a repuke? :sarcasm: ) PM me and perhaps some of our mutual friends, and let's get started!

14. great idea.
this is a great idea. a huge undertaking but can be done. It cannot be solely a left wing thing because what is happening is not just a left -wing thing. many of Ron Paul's supporters and the like may see It a bit different but all are in agreement that the government is broken. That the old crowd and their idea have to go or we are finished. Egypt started something that has to go world wide. The whole global structure has to changed, challenged or we are headed for a slavery of sorts.
So do not keep this to just one side of the political fence. Include all who are fed up. They will find out how much they have in common. When Iran and America march the establishment will freak.

15. Just a thought.
I say we physically Shut down Wall Street. That's their priority. It should be ours. I remember reading (maybe here) if we all stopped consuming for one day, the whole system would be rocked. Those that can get to NYC take to the Street. Those that want to affect change boycott any spending. Maybe even organize some kind of bartering system locally for a week. Share your extra food, trade. Call in sick, definitely boycott buying gasoline for a week.

21. YES!!! A bottom-up capital strike!
It's my understanding it was the economic damage that pushed the military leaders in Egypt to finally put and end to Mubarak's games. The military holds an awful lot of investments there. Of course there were other issues at play as well but in the end money talks. Our consumerism and labor are all we have in this game.

26. But Neocons would do a "spend double" day at the same time.
I think a single day is too easily countered by the pro-billionaire crowd. We should vow to eliminate all non-essential spending for a month. Sure, buy groceries (from local farmers when possible) and other very basic needs. But no new cell phones, luxury items, or anything that isn't absolutely necessary.

They can negate our efforts for a day or two by spending more, but they can't spend like that all month long. We can cut our spending for years if we have to (yes, I know some of you already have to *hugs*).

My wife is a conservative, but even she would go for this plan... she's always wanted a husband who doesn't spend money.
