Speaking of Eisenhower:
www.costofwar.com

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower
April 16, 1953

(in regard to Obama referring to Ike and spending)

1. Why did Ike hate Murika so much?...
I've used the Ike quote, the Butler quote, and the Shoup quote about the MIC and war, and had people actually tell me that those quotes are outdated and have nothing to do with our situation today.

4. Sad that Ike is to the left of Obama,
Hell, it's even sadder than Nixon is to the left of Obama.

6. Obama should aspire to be more like Ike - after all Eisenhower actually INCREASED
the number of folks eligible for social security. In fact, there was a great expansion of the program under his watch.

10. I was just a kid,
but I liked Ike. He was like a comfortable old grandpa. It's sad to think how far to the right the country has moved. Sure, we had Communist scares and all that back then, but I don't remember anyone feeling like OUR government was the enemy.

12. Same here
I remember the political buttons we wore - "I like Ike". As you say, he was like a comfortable old grandpa, but I never fully appreciated him until the last few years. He was a far better president than I ever gave him credit for.
