Chemical dispersants & GE bacteria STILL being used, illegally, in the Gulf

-snip video-

Dr. Riki Ott, a marine biologist, toxicologist, and author of Not One Drop: Betrayal and Courage in the Wake of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, says chemical dispersants and genetically engineered bacteria are still being used in the Gulf of Mexico illegally, contrary to what the U.S. EPA is telling people, according to an interview that ran on KALW in San Francisco and KUSP in Santa Cruz, California.

Many people along the Gulf Coast are still reporting illnesses and problems obtaining economic compensation for their losses due to the BP oil disaster from the $20 billion seized from BP assets by the Obama administration.

"We're Poisoned. We're Sick."

Residents who live along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, all the way from Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, to well into western Florida, continue to tell me of acute symptoms they attribute to ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals being released from BP's crude oil and the toxic Corexit dispersants used to sink it.

"The northerly wind seems to do the uncovering ," a cleanup supervisor said. "Southerly winds appear to be covering it up."

"This is the biggest cover-up in the history of America," Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser told reporters on a boat trip he took with Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) officials last week.
Nungesser was enraged by finding vast areas of Louisiana marsh soiled with oil, while no protective boom or cleanup workers were within sight.
"It's like you're in bed with BP," Nungesser fumed at the officials. "You cover up for BP."

As BP's stock price continues to improve, the Coast Guard, NOAA, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency all continue to go to great lengths to convince the public, particularly those living along the Coast, that the air, water and seafood are perfectly safe.

-long snip describing the illness the people are suffering-

from the beginning I've said pregnant women, infants, children should evacuate the area of the coast.

I know lack of money keeps many of the above there. our empire should do more to help them.

fat chance.

How much has actually gone into the hands of the Working Class people who were damaged by BP?

7. I wouldn't be surprised...
....if a great deal of these funds go to "fund managers" and others who didn't suffer any damages, or lift a finger to help.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a BIG chuck of this money found its way straight back into BP's pockets since....
All that oil & stuff all just went away.

BP Mediator Feinberg Can't Call Himself Independent, Judge Says
By Jef Feeley and Allen M. Johnson Jr. - Feb 3, 2011 12:01 AM ET
A federal judge said Kenneth Feinberg, the lawyer paying victims of BP Plc’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill, can’t identify himself as an independent administrator of a $20 billion settlement fund.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier in New Orleans concluded yesterday that Feinberg must fully disclose his ties to BP when communicating with potential claimants. Lawyers for oil-spill victims had questioned Feinberg’s handling of the $20 billion trust fund, known as the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, or GCCF.

“A full disclosure of the relationship between Mr. Feinberg, the GCCF, and BP will at least make transparent that it is BP’s interests” that Feinberg is promoting in his role as head of the fund, the judge said in a 15-page ruling.

<snip>

Attorneys for spill victims asked Barbier to order the fund to post information on its website declaring that Feinberg, his firm and the fund are acting as “BP’s agents.”

They contend Feinberg is using misleading tactics to persuade thousands of potential claimants to sign away their rights to sue the company in exchange for smaller payments than they might win in a lawsuit. Feinberg has encouraged claimants not to hire lawyers to evaluate their claims, spill victims’ attorneys contend.

And they aren't paying out much, either:
BP has yet to 'make it right' on Coast
10:20 PM, Feb. 5, 2011

News from Louisiana that a federal judge has held that Kenneth Feinberg - the Washington lawyer appointed to administer the BP's $20 billion oil spill compensation fund - should not be allowed to call himself independent is old news.

<snip>

BP pledged to "make it right" and to date, many Gulf Coast residents see that as a hollow, unkept promise. As there was in August, there remain some significant unresolved issues beyond the Gulf Coast's long-term restoration.

<Snip>

Even more disturbing are reports that BP's compensation fund for Gulf oil spill victims has made a final settlement payment to just one of some 91,000 people and businesses waiting for checks - and that the $10 million payout in question went to a company after BP intervened on its behalf.

The feeling of many waiting on BP claims to be paid by Kenneth Feinberg is that they indeed already have been forgotten. State officials can expect to hear from those folks in the 2011 statewide elections.

9. You know, if you quit looking at these problems, they're that much easier to ignore
In a sense, the clean-up effort has been abandoned to the "natural" course of filtering out all these chemicals, toxins, and petroleum. Whatever survives contact with or habitation of the polluted waters will consume part of the pollution, ingest some, excrete some, and disperse it into the environment. Over the course of five years or ten years, a lot of it will be processed in this fashion. Of course, it's too bad if you're one of the organisms that dies from that contact, or experiences a foreshortened life span, but you will die so that others may live, and so that BP doesn't suffer too grievous a hit.

Just so you all know your place on the hierarchy of living things in BP-Land.

14. It is beyond my limited comprehension to fathom the destruction that has been, and continues to be,
waged against the people, animals, and ecosystem in the Gulf.

It is intolerable.
