Turns out the refugees from Tunisia are mostly bad guys fleeing
Edited on Wed Feb-16-11 01:10 PM by Waiting For Everyman
All of the news reports, including Al Jazeera's, leave out WHY all these refugees are fleeing to Lampedusa, Italy. What's all the secrecy about? Why in the heck would there be fleeing "refugees" in such numbers AFTER the fall of a dictator?

Well I can think of a reason, so I looked for some more information to see if there was some other explanation. But nope. They're mostly "people who are close to the entourage of Mr. Ben Ali" says Laura Boldrini, Italian spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

Are we really sure these aren't people who Tunisia might want to put on trial sometime? Why else are they fleeing as "refugees"? If they just innocently wanted to leave, wouldn't they go differently - as normal expats via normal transportation? My hunch is that they aren't just "close to the entourage", but the regime's thugs. If they were better connected than that, they'd more likely make other travel arrangements.

Isn't this nonsensical and mighty fishy?

Why is the media so shy about telling us who they are?

3. Lampedusans are already outnumbered
so that can't be good. If Libya falls, its "refugees" are expected to head for Lampedusa too.

Sux to be them, right now.

2. Seemed pretty obvious to me. But I did notice that no one in the media
mentioned why they were leaving. Thanks for the post.
