Those making sexist/racist/mind-numbingly insensitive comments should not have their sins so quickly covered for them. If they wish to repent, fine; but deleting the sub-threads teaches nothing to no one. We deserve to know who has taken residence in this public forum. Let the offenders be recognized and corrected; they've earned it.
6. I have no complaints for the policy as I totally understand and agree to a point
On a forum as popular as DU I can see that things could degenerate quickly. Tempers flare, people hide behind anonymity, words fly. I totally get that.
But sometimes folks ought to have their words tied to them.
I've seen posters have blatantly anti-Semitic or sexist posts pulled -- I understand the urge to delete but then all evidence of that poster's offensive views disappears.
I would like to think that the denunciations that would quickly follow would prove the opposite to be true but as I have stated I can also see things quickly degenerating.
That underscores my claim that this thread is not a complaint. I know what I would LIKE to see but I understand that in strictly practical terms it may not be feasible.
9. Sometimes moderators leave up obvious Troll Postings so that
the newer members to online forums can learn what to look for in a troglodyte with 3 brain cells (the smarter breeds have 4 brain cells, but three is close to smartestest). I wish they would leave up these posts so we can all throw dung at the guest loser of the day...then TS their ass later after we shellac them into a viral coma.
12. Posters have records that mods can access. This includes deletions.
If a poster is a repeat offender their history will guide the decisions of the mod crew, and may influence a decision to just give up and tombstone the fucker.
17. Well, as I said, I find to many obstacles to propose a practical solution
I honestly do not think there is a practical solution to overcoming the flame wars and appearance of tacit approval that would ensue.
Since I don't see a solution I have no proposal to offer. I'm just offering a thread, surely to die a natural death soon enough, to give voice to a simple musing.
