Woo hoo! Pushback in Iowa...
It has been very disheartening to see Branstad try to take an axe to Iowa's budget by first targeting our public preschool programs. Iowa has a long tradition of supporting public education. Pushback in the state senate is slowing him down.

DES MOINES - The Democrat-controlled Iowa Senate voted Thursday to approve a mix of spending cuts, tax relief and supplemental appropriations.

The action would restore programs for preschool, smoking cessation and economic development previously axed by the GOP-led House.

Senators voted to pass two separate measures that propose to provide about $148 million in tax relief for working families, small businesses and others. They also add nearly $46 million in state spending for critical areas while de-appropriating about $6 million yet this fiscal year.

The action scales back the $485 million in savings over five years from all state funds that was envisioned by the House...
