What is the GOP Going to Demand in the Debt Ceiling Hostage Situation?
The White House is apparently more than willing to bow to their demands: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0211/49757.html

What do you think they will demand? Any thoughts?

3. Something that will, in their view, destroy any chance of Obama or Democrats winning..
in 2012.

They will happily crashing the economy for a win in 2012.

This isn't about Obama; it is a political coup.

7. Yeah, but my point is, Obama could easily say, "I'm not giving you anything" like Clinton, & they
cave w/o any horrible repercussions except they look like morons. Yet, Obama never passes up an opportunity to "compromise" a.k.a. give away everything for free.

10. I was in the military under Clinton and we did not get paid...
So when Obama faces this, he has to think of the real world problems that will occur if he just tells them to go screw themselves, no deal.

My mother, and everyone on Social Security, will quite possibly not see a check if the government is shut down? How much should they suffer for no deal?

Medicare, Medicaid payments don't get sent out. Will doctors just swallow the loss, or will they limit seeing patients.

The military doesn't get paid. The people who will really be affected are the millions of family members who will wonder where they will get money for food or rent. Many, especially the enlisted with family, many of whom live near or under the poverty line, may be forced to take payday loans at very high interest rates that affect them for years. (I know, because I went through that under Clinton). The Department of Defense is the single largest employers of American civilians, and they won't get paid. How many will have to run up more credit card debt or even see foreclosures.

And then there are the macroeconomic problems. We are a debtor nation that must service our debt. Failure to service that debt for even a month will have repercussions on the worth the dollar that will reverberate across the U.S. and around the world.

You should not assume that Republicans will simply surrender. They have already run a cost benefit analysis of this seven ways to Sunday, and have a good grasp on what they think they will win or lose.

As pleasant as it might be to see President Obama extend his middle finger and say, "Sit on this and rotate," the costs could be very high indeed. What are you willling to suffer?

5. Cutting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid,
And sadly, as with the tax cuts for the rich, Obama will cave.

6. Extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy!
Oh, wait. They already have that.

I know .... repeal McCain/Feingold restrictions on campaign contributions. What? The Citizens United decision pretty much already did that?

How about, in return for extending the debt ceiling, Obama will scrap any attempts at imposing cap and trade on carbon emissions, and then never speak of it again? Cap and trade, anyone?

Gee, now that you mention it, what else could they possibly want that they don't already have? I'm guessing a reduction in the income tax rate for corporations and some kind of symbolic cap on the growth rate of Medicare/Medicaid.

11. War with Iran.
Because $150+ billion on the wars is just not enough to bring the country to it's knees in a timely manor.
