Republican Governor DELIBERATELY SPENT WISCONSIN SURPLUS To PICK FIGHT With Unions
:smoke: :smoke: :smoke:

" It's important that people understand this: This is a fight Gov. Walker picked for the specific purpose of breaking the unions. Wisconsin had a surplus, and as soon as he was sworn in, Walker gave it away to special interests in order to put the state into deficit. Is it a coincidence that every Republican governor is suddenly going after the unions and the pensions? Is it simply bubbling up from the ground for no special reason? Hell, no.

" Wisconsin's new Republican governor has framed his assault on public worker's collective bargaining rights as a needed measure of fiscal austerity during tough times.

The reality is radically different. Unlike true austerity measures -- service rollbacks, furloughs, and other temporary measures that cause pain but save money -- rolling back worker's bargaining rights by itself saves almost nothing on its own. But Walker's doing it anyhow, to knock down a barrier and allow him to cut state employee benefits immediately.

Furthermore, this broadside comes less than a month after the state's fiscal bureau -- the Wisconsin equivalent of the Congressional Budget Office -- concluded that Wisconsin isn't even in need of austerity measures, and could conclude the fiscal year with a surplus. In fact, they say that the current budget shortfall is a direct result of tax cut policies Walker enacted in his first days in office.

1. Yes. Stephanie Miller had guests this AM drawing this whole picture
of Walker immediately giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars from a solid surplus he inherited to his friends special interests.

2. That's what Bush did for the same reason.
So did the MTA in NY a few years ago.

5. Thank you. So glad the surplus information is getting out. Rachel
Maddow brought it up, well, MORE than that, but emphasized this cloaked budgetary crisis crap. Here's another article: Walker gins up crisis to reward cronies:

14. This is how Republicans roll

The legislators, governors, lobbyists, the PACs, Big Industry can do all of the squealing and appealing and lobbying they want to when it comes to THEIR causes and THEIR money.

But the American worker isn't supposed to be able to even negotiate for better health insurance or a better retirement.

What the fuck is wrong with Americans that they continue electing these Republican "kings and queens" who deny workers rights?

Let's hope Wisconsin wakes a lot of people up out of their stupor.

16. Impeachment is up to the legislature
Which is now in Republican hands. However, there is a possibility of recall after one year in office--that is up to the people.

17. I just don't understand where they think they're going with this plan?
Seriously. The only thing that makes sense is that they think they will regain complete control over this country when people begin to go hungry. Don't they see the protest and rioting that will come long before then?

strategy playing out. This far right wing strategy was real, it is now coming to fruition. This might have been the true purpose of the ridiculous tax cuts. If we want to continue to have social security and medicare we will stop this far right wing attack right now.

This is why Obama's caving in to extending the tax cuts was such an egregious betrayal of our interests. We need to demand that Obama make it clear right now through his actions that he is on our side. He is "Either with us or he is against us." It is that simple.
