Iowa High School Girl Wrestler Loses in Second Round
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 10:38 AM by MineralMan
For those who participated in the threads about Cassy Herkelman, the freshman girl wrestler at the state tournament. A boy refused to wrestle her in the opening round, so she won by default. The second round for her 112 lb. class has just finished, and she lost in a 5-1 decision against another wrestler.

Lots of grit from Cassy, and quite an experience to compete in the state tournament. She's just a freshman, so that makes it even more remarkable that she got to the tournament. Good luck next year, Cassy!

Matt Victor (SO), Indianola Dec Cassy Herkelman (FR), Cedar Falls, 5-1

The tournament is double knockout format.

Her next bout is #230 against Jordan Jones from Des Moines North High School

Edit: and there's a chance she could face Joel Northrup again in bout #371, if they both win through to the consolation final.

4. Note: I refer to kids of high school age as girls and boys.
It's just a usage thing. Beyond high school, I refer to them as women and men. I hope nobody objects to this usage.

6. A worthy try for her, though.
She's just a freshman. She'll improve her skills, I'm sure.

8. No problem. The story caught my attention, and I wanted to see
how she did. I figured others who were involved with the threads would want to know too.

10. Points in wrestling
It has to do with how many points are awarded to your team from each individual. The more points you beat your opponent by, the more points you score for your team. A major decision awards more points than just a regular decision.

* 6 Pts. – Wrestler wins by pin or forfeit, injury default, disqualification of the opponent.
* 5 Pts. – Wrestler wins by technical fall (lead of 15 Pts. during the match)
* 4 Pts. – Wrestler wins by major decision (point spread of between 8 and 14 pts.).
* 3 Pts. – Wrestler wins by regular decision (7 points or less)

13. It is just win or lose for each individual match,
But when you are there as a team, there is a team score going as well. Like Track and Field. There are two competetions at once, an individual and a team.
