A political cartoon which makes the naive and dubious claim that the protections codified by the Bill of Rights are limits to items that existed at the time of its creation.

Modern firearms are not protected, only flintlocks are.
Speech on internet is not protected, only speech printed on manual printing press is.
Protection from warrantless search doesn't apply to DNA, computer records, or video recordings, only physical items circa 1776 are protected.
The right to not incriminate yourself doesn't prevent the govt using truth serum drugs since they didn't exist in the 18th century.

Strange that some apply a completely different standard to the 2nd, one they would find tyranical is applied to other Constitutional rights.

is that the Founding Fathers were not frozen in time. They were fully aware of the history of firearms development up to the time of the writing of the Constitution and had indeed witnessed improvements in their own lifetimes.Having just fought a revolution and with a new country to defend I'm sure they followed developments in firearms technology with great interest.

Repeating firearms date all the way back to at least 1590 with wheel lock revolvers. They had a hand rotated cylinder and were indeed very crude by today's standards but indeed showed that the gun makers were on a quest for more and better in firearms technology.

By the time the Founders wrote the Constitution the Cookson repeating flintlock rifle had already been around about 40 years. Not that many were made and indeed the single shot muzzle loaders were far easier to produce, but the blueprint for modern repeating arms was already well laid just waiting for the development of the percussion cap.
