Pelosi says she's 'proud' of Wisconsin Democrats who fled
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/145203-pelosi-says-shes-proud-of-wisconsin-dems-who-fled

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she supports the Democratic state senators in Wisconsin who left the state to stop a vote on curbing collective bargaining rights for unionized public employees.

After earlier voicing solidarity with the workers protesting against Gov. Scott Walker (R) in Wisconsin, Pelosi told The Hill she also stands behind the state legislators who fled and are now reportedly being sought by police.

“I saw some of them speak on TV, and they were very proud of the action that they took. I’m very proud of what they are doing,” she said. “They’re standing up for the rights of America's workingmen and -women to have a voice at the table about their jobs and their futures, so yes, I support them.”

(snip)
Pelosi laughed off a question about whether she would ever lead House Democrats out of the capital in protest of the Republican majority. “Would we have to go to another country?” she quipped. “We’re national.”

1. I really don't like the word "fled"
we have to find a better term.

3. I completely agree...
that term makes them sound like criminals, which we all know they're not!

6. This should be good to raise her popularity on DU for 2-3 days
before they find some other reason to throw her under the bus.

8. LOL! "they" are not the ones who "find" reasons to get mad at elected DEMS.
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 06:08 PM by Dr Fate
Elected DEMS seem to "find" & then support things their base dislikes all on their own.

If you are predicting that by the 4th day Pelosi will have done nothing more beyond this statement, you are probably right. DUers will disagree with such a lack of action. At least the liberal ones.

I look forward to seeing what actions she plans on taking after this statement.

14. Um
The fourth day is Presidents' Day. I think she has the day off.

And yes, they do look for things.

- "Fucking retarded" - aimed at a particular threat made to his face, not liberals in general.
- "Ought to get their head examined" - again, aimed at people who equate Obama and Bush*, not liberals in general.
- "Professional leftists" - not aimed at gays, lesbians, African-American women, or union members (it seems everyone was clamoring to be victimized by that one), but people who are paid to espouse a left-wing position, such as Jane Hamsher.
- Don't ask, don't tell - repealed.
- "Cat food commission" - there are no cuts to Social Security in the proposed budget.

7. Good start! She needs to go on all the TV shows and get some audio & video sound bytes out there.
Unless we think interent text on a friday afternoon is enough. Is it?

11. I agree. I want to see some of our national Democratic
leaders get out there and speak not just issue statements, that's not enough.

13. Thanks for not attacking my idea!
Edited on Fri Feb-18-11 06:40 PM by Dr Fate
Believe it or not, I usually get attacked for suggesting that friday afternoon internet text should be supplemented with continued TV appearances, etc.

Normally almost everyone comes in and says that asking for this is akin to "DEM bashing" or "moving the goal posts"- as I should know good & well that "the media" wont let them on, will cut their mic or some other lame-ass conspiracy theory.

I'm glad that someone on DU finally agrees with me that TV sound bytes will get more exposure than internet text alone! Maybe I'm not so crazy after all! ;)

9. Why is the word proud in quotes?
Makes it seem sarcastic or suspect.

15. For a little clarity on a topic of context.
They took up a position, they were still speaking their case, and ideas. They only left a geographic area, not a principled area.

I agree with the concept of that statement.
