This is great news - Delaware looks like they will soon approve same sex civil unions

I know, it's not marriage, but unfortunately there is something in the DE constitution that will require much more work in order for that to happen. But until that day this is definitely positive news here in the First State! And since our state is solidly blue across the board it looks good for it to pass. Although it will still be called a 'civil union' it guarantees all the same rights as a regular marriage.

Equality Delaware -- a newly formed statewide group -- on Thursday unveiled the first campaign in Delaware to legalize civil unions for same-sex couples.

About 120 people attended the group's first public meeting at First & Central Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, where leaders explained strategy, answered questions and urged those in attendance to join the effort. A similar meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center in Rehoboth Beach.

The group, chaired by Wilmington attorney Lisa Goodman, has drafted legislation and found lead sponsors in state Rep. Melanie George, D-Bear, and state Sen. David Sokola, D-Newark. Goodman said the bill would be filed in mid-March.
