Look for the Union label!
Can we get a thread going of union places to shop? It's important to support all unions (and, by extension, unions for all).

I'll go first with American Apparel, born in the USA, in downtown LA. Any biz that advertises in the Onion must be good.

And be sure to support those currently on the firing line. Hissyspit told us about Ian's Pizza:

3. Wranglers - made in NC
Cruised my local (and I do mean local!) department store last night, looking at labels. Carhartt? China. Dickies? Latin America. Wranglers - North Carolina. Now, on googling, it appears some are made here, others, not so much. Don't know @ union made?

6. Sorry to say that Wranglers are NOT made in NC
Their corp. headquarters are there.
Wrangler, Lee and Levi all moved their manufacturing to Mexico about 2004. Levi's, the quintessential American jeans, were the last hold out, and as a textile professional, I was sad to hear of their move.
Walmart can be pretty much thanked for this, as they've demanded suppliers to LOWER their prices every year. Now it appears that more and more have moved from Mexico and are manufactured in the China area.
I did a quick "google" but I can't find any jeans currently made in USA. In fact, if you do find Levi's with a "Made in USA" tag-hang on to them, they're collector's items!!

Who remembers this commercial? From 1981!

8. I have refused Levis since they moved out of the USA.
And I was pissed! I had been a Lees and Levis girl my entire life. But no more.

Not just clothing, but ANYTHING made in the USA!

I need a crock pot, and can't find one made here. Any ideas?

14. My older Nesco was made in the US
but I don't know if that's still the case. We have a large family so have a huge one, but they do make smaller sizes. I prefer it to a regular crockpot because you can actually brown your meat in it, then turn it down to slow-cook.

13. Love my Oreck!
A sweet elderly lady who I used to take care of had one, so I had to save up and get one as well. She was a strong Kentucky democrat who paid careful attention to where things were made and was willing to pay a little more to keep the money here.

11. A stark difference between the parties:
Edited on Sun Feb-20-11 02:58 PM by JohnnyRingo
During political campaigns, the Democratic contenders always feature union made goods on their fund raising sites, and they make a point of telling visitors as much. On Republican sites, They guarantee the shirts are not soiled by the hands of organized labor,

Check next time there's an election, and see for yourself.

15. Got that right, and every day the tea party could be embracing
American made, they stand with the haters that are trying to destroy the backbone of families, the working class. The masses are waking up, and standing up. There isn't one country that should not have labor laws, it's human rights, it shouldn't be about profit, it's about right and wrong.

There's a fire lit and it's not going out....it's going global and I'm loving it.
