You are probably already aware that this is the last day of our first quarter 2011 fund drive. To our monthly subscribers, and to everyone who has already donated this fund drive: ! !

But we still have a way to go to reach our goal. s haven't let us down yet, and I don't think you're going let us down this time either. As I write this, we have less than 150 to go to reach our goal, and half a day left to make it.

Let's close this thing out!

somebody gave me one once, and I paid it forward. But a donated star makes somebody look like a financial contributor when they really aren't. Maybe some cannot afford to contribute and contribute with their posts, but that would not necessarily be a random DUer.

When I first came to DU, I did not know what the stars meant. I thought they were like the stars from grade school. That if you made some really good posts that you would earn a star. At least it seemed like the person I was reading had earned hers. I was kinda hoping to earn one myself.

Edit: Just went back and checked. The person has a star, but I'm still not sure it came from me. :shrug:

if you wanted the star to go to someone other than yourself, then it should go to them. So if you put their name in when you donated, then the star went to them. :hi:

Until it's done. There's no reason for it to be the last day.

Unexpected medical bills ate the leftovers from social security. But I'll donate as soon as I'm able, just not during this drive. Sorry, and thanks!

I thought it was typical in the hearts fund drive to hit 1,000 donations by Thursday afternoon if not earlier.

Is there a deeper divide since December? Is the economy weaker than I thought, even worse than last year? Have we lost many donating members?

Seems to me that there should be more unity these days. We have mostly been on the same side on Egypt and on Wisconsin.

Curious.

I had so few hearts though, that I gave two to myself. Unless you figure that Skinner gave me the first one for donating. But the "evil DUer" heart feels like an UnHeart to me. So I gave myself a second one.

When you donate during this drive, YOU get the stars unless you specify another person(s) to get them.

They sat there in some star cyberspace until I gave them out. They were never posted on my sigline.

I think that somebody here just likes you... :)

It may be that the others who like you figure that you're already pretty popular. :)

I'll admit, I am having to forgo this time (even though I'm a monthly donator - I usually try to star a few during the drive) but I have faith in my fellow DUers. They'll bring it home, I know they will!

I know we'll get there!

2 1/2 weeks of below freezing temps here in Tenn gave me an electric bill of almost $500 to pay this month. My star is good til the May fundraiser, I should be able to donate then...

Great job by everyone else, though.. only 48 to go as I post this.. Woot! Woot!

Talk about 11th hour!

What a joy--finally!!!! DU has changed my life in the few years I've been "lurking"..an avid student of the bright minds here. Thank you for all the information, not to mention laughter and tears. I don't know any of you personally (though I wish I did) but I often feel like I'm among friends and a lot less alone. This place moves me and I seriously do not know what I would do without DU.
