Gov Walker's Statement Proves that His Assault on Public Employees Has Nothing to do w/ the Budget
from AlterNet:

Governor Walker's Own Statement Proves that His Assault on Public Employees Has Nothing to do with Wisconsin's Budget Shortfall

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has a long history trying to break public sector unions. But last week, as the Milwaukee Business Times reported, he insisted that "his bill was strictly based on the need to cut the budget and was not based on any political agenda." Indeed, the bill was introduced by the governor as an "e mergency measure... needed to balance the state budget and give government the tools to manage during economic crisis."

But a close reading of the governor's own press release announcing the measure shows just how misleading that claim really is.

Here's the problem, according to Walker's release:

The state of Wisconsin is facing an immediate deficit of $137 million for the current fiscal year which ends July 1. In addition, bill collectors are waiting to collect over $225 million for a prior raid of the Patients’ Compensation Fund.

There is a $137 million shortfall for this year. Regarding the Patients' Compensation Fund, Politifact reports that "a court ruling is pending in that matter, so the money might not have to be transferred until next budget year." ...........(more)

1. It does, but so far Walker isn't embarrassed by that
and the Majority leader in the Senate endorses Walker's resolve.

They have majorities, they feel they have no reason to compromise anything.

The Flee-a-buster must continue or the bill will be rammed through faster than high-speed rail.

3. Yes, they have the numbers
Thank God so many Democrats stayed home last November because they didn't get everything they wanted. Really is no difference between the parties. :sarcasm:

4. And so the game isn't to change the numbers, but the bill.
There are some Wisconsin senators who are church-going. The way the ecclesiastical leaders of Wisconsin were talking on Friday, I would be surprised if many the pulpits of Wisconsin didn't deliver a pro-labor message.

2. Then why give the corps a tax break the minute he gets in
office??

$120 something tax break for corps
He started with a surplus
He is a liar
He is a very evil man
He should be asked what he and his administration are going to give up, they are also public employees

5. Considering that they manufactured this crisis via taxcuts to corporations...
I don't believe the unions are the only target. In fact, I know they're not - Walker is in negotiations to privatize public infrastructure. Right now, it's a couple of power plants, but what else is at risk? Once they've sold off whatever infrastructure the state owns directly, their cuts in funding the localities will force the sale of their assets as well: water and sewer systems, parks, public buildings, entire school systems, roads and highways.

What will happen to Wisconsin (or any of the other states with the same agenda) when the public no longer owns the infrastructure and has to pay to play in every facet of their daily lives? Is there a provision in the Constitution that allows private corporations to tax citizens? There is no other reasonable method of collecting revenues on that scale.

This does not begin and end with union busting. It's just the start of our Brave New World.

Edited on Sun Feb-20-11 05:25 PM by Texas-Limerick
Scott Walker cannot any longer a recall resist
And the governorship can no longer be possessed
Tho once a good fellow
Already he is the devil
Now his head is spinning as we call the exorcist

7. And another
Scott Walker started a feeding frenzy
when he let the rich raid the state treasury
"Take all you please
it's like government cheese
God blesses you as we starve the beastly"
