On Feb. 19, on a small roadway island near a WalMart in coastal SC, I saw a white-haired man sitting, holding a piece of cardboard which read, "Parkinson's--please help."
The way he was shaking, I believe he really had Parkinson's.
The temperature was in the mid-70's, he was out there in the hot sun, and the group I was with wondered how he got there--probably not under his own steam; I doubt he was able to drive.
I wondered if some relative of his put him out there to collect money. (Which the relative might then use for whatever they wanted to.) Anyway, we speculated about what to do--call 911 or something. In the end we didn't do anything.
But something still could be done, if this is still going on. What to do--call Dept. of Social Services? This could be a case of elder abuse.
