Senate Dems present united front on GOP abortion fight
Senate Dems present united front on GOP abortion fight

Democratic Sens. Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), Al Franken (Minn.) and Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) have promised recently to block the Republican agenda to limit abortion services and defund Planned Parenthood.

Asked by reporters Thursday if the Senate had the votes to defeat Pence’s battle against Planned Parenthood, Franken offered a one-word answer: “Yes."

Following the recess week, the Senate will produce a spending bill that will look much different from the House version, which blocks funding to implement the healthcare reform law. With the prospect of a government shutdown looming over the continuing resolution, it’s unclear if Republicans will back down on defunding Planned Parenthood.

2. That's good news
I don't want other organizations to suffer the same fate as ACORN. How did THAT happen with ACORN, anyway? I don't even remember there being any real debate about defunding ACORN? The videos appeared and.....poof! It was a done deal.

4. You're right, there wasn't much talk (or enough) about what
was happening to ACORN, thanks in large part to faux and their minions. Media Matters covered it in depth at the time.

5. The real travesty
is that it happened when Dems were in control of Congress at the time and President Obama apparently signed off on it too- which is what really makes me nervous about this whole Planned Parenthood thing. Was the defunding of ACORN just slipped into the budget or a CR somewhere and nobody really noticed it? I'll have to check out Media Matters. I remember the whole scenario and being sickened by what O'Keefe was doing. I would hope that that whole situation, as well as his other publicized attempt to *seduce* a CNN reporter and bug(?) Mary Landrieu's office would make people think twice before throwing organizations and people targeted by scum like O'Keefe, Rose, and Breitbart under the bus.
