Threads for previous days are in my journal

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

How depraved. These mercenaries are the same ones Western powers use all over Africa to do our dirty work for control of minerals, diamonds, oil.


When does the shame kick in? And is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercs? We need to work in West to eliminate not just black budget ops but black budgets period. The Pentagon, the CIA and their counterparts in the EU should be under full citizen scrutiny. It's OUR money after all.

They sit on the sidelines waiting to see if their hired thugs will survive and protect their business interests.

There is no morality left in this country.

I just posted in the last thread, which you probably won't see, but I have read some Libya Wikileaks cables which show that the U.S. was negotiating with Libya to help it get Nuclear Power and more weapons.

They were actually talking about this.

I have no yet finished reading to see if they had gone forward, but this is what our government has been doing that they do not want us to know about.

As one tweet I saw said 'The U.S. Empire is awash in a sea of blood'!

I hope we see the end of these policies now, that these countries as they become democratized will refust to deal with immoral superpowers.

The Brits out shine us though in their support for brutal dictators. No wonder we were such good partners in the slaughter in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Why is Hillary Clinton giving millions to Gaddafi

September 28th, 2009

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the feisty ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee has written to the Secretary of State calling on her to cancel $2.5 million in State Department Economic Support Funds for Libya, of which $400,000 is earmarked for foundations run by the Gaddafi family. Ros-Lehtinen’s memo to Clinton follows a letter last week by Congressman Mark Steven Kirk (a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee) to the White House urging the president to intervene.

Here is her statement in full:
    “Although this money was provided by Congress to promote democracy and human rights in Libya, the Administration has chosen to funnel the resources through the Qadhafi family. How could this assistance effectively promote democracy when entrusted to the dictator’s family?”

    “This waste of taxpayer dollars is particularly outrageous following the hero’s welcome given to the Lockerbie bomber organized by Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi and his son Saif al-Islam al Qadhafi.”

    “This windfall to the Qadhafis will only work to further entrench a dictatorial regime whose extremist dogma was most recently demonstrated just yesterday, with Muammar Qadhafi’s bizarre diatribe against freedom-loving nations at the UN.”


The Florida Congresswoman is absolutely right. No U.S. funds should be going to Gaddafi or his barbaric regime. If Clinton approves the disbursement of the money to Libya, $200,000 will be given to the Gaddafi Development Foundation, run by Gaddafi’s son Saif, and $200,000 is due to go to the Wa’ettasemon organization, run by his daughter Aisha in conjunction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). For further details on how Gaddafi’s family charities spend their money, see Greg Pollowitz’s post at the Media Blog over at NRO.

It simply beggars belief that just weeks after Muammar Gaddafi welcomed home the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi as a returning hero, the Obama administration is still planning to send U.S. taxpayer dollars into the coffers of the Libyan dictator. Colonel Gaddafi does not need another stimulus package from Washington.

There's been virtually no reliable information coming out of Tripoli, but a source close to the Gaddafi regime I did manage to get hold of told me the already terrible situation in Libya will get much worse. Among other things, Gaddafi has ordered security services to start sabotaging oil facilities. They will start by blowing up several oil pipelines, cutting off flow to Mediterranean ports. The sabotage, according to the insider, is meant to serve as a message to Libya's rebellious tribes: It's either me or chaos.

The source went on and told me that Gaddafi's desperation has a lot to with the fact that he now can only count on the loyalty of his tribe, the Qadhadhfa. And as for the army, as of Monday he only has the loyalty of approximately 5,000 troops. They are his elite forces, the officers all handpicked. Among them is the unit commanded by his second youngest son Khamis, the 32nd Brigade. (The total strength of the regular Libyan army is 45,000.)
My Libyan source said that Gaddafi has told people around him that he knows he cannot retake Libya with the forces he has. But what he can do is make the rebellious tribes and army officers regret their disloyalty, turning Libya into another Somalia. "I have the money and arms to fight for a long time," Gaddafi reportedly said.

My Libyan source said that in order to understand Gaddafi's state of mind we need to understand that he feels deeply betrayed by the media, which he blames for sparking the revolt. In particular, he blames the Qatari TV station al-Jazeera, and is convinced it targeted him for purely political motivations. He also feels betrayed by the West because it has only encouraged the revolt. Over the weekend, he warned several European embassies that if he falls, the consequence will be a flood of African immigration that will "swamp" Europe.

He could be stopped with a no-fly zone, a freezing of Libya's banks and assests are ound the world, and then a NATO force to go in and arrest him and his cohorts.

Is the UN still meeting? I have not seen anything yet.

It was to set procedures for the substantive mtg, which is set for 3 PM EST. AJE correspondent says it doesn't look like establishing a no-fly zone will be part of the next steps planned by the Sec. Council.
