Where is the President?
As the events in Wisconsin are well into their second week, we have yet to see the President truly take up the cause. After issuing a brief statement of tepid support almost a week ago, Obama has paid more attention to what is going on in Libya and with small businesses than what is going on with the people who put him into power, the union members.

Does the man have a political death wish? Seriously now, unions and their members came out in serious support of Obama's campaign, despite some serious trepidation on the part of some. Fewer people gave more in terms of cash, time and effort. Yet now Obama has essentially abandoned the field, and abandoned the unions.

Why?

His actions as a president have baffled many on the left almost since the beginning of his term. He has, at times, seemed to deliberately go out of his way to antagonize the ones who brought him to the White House. Teachers, civil libertarians, the GLBT community, and others all have had their disagreements with Obama. But now Obama is seemingly intent on pissing off his biggest supporters, the unions. His inaction in Wisconsin and elsewhere is damning, and damaging. If unions go down, just where in the hell does Obama think he is going to get his support from?

This paradox makes very little sense, but I keep circling back to something that Obama mentioned earlier in his tenure, “I’d rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president.” Good for what, better yet, good for whom? The only ones that benefit from the destruction of the unions are the same folks that benefit from the extension of the tax cuts, the travesty of health care reform, and the continuation of the wars, namely the rich and elite. Questions to ponder, and none of the answers are good.

The inaction on the part of the president is unconscionable. His inability, or unwillingness to fight is not going to harm just the people in Wisconsin, but workers throughout the country. Ultimately, it will weaken and perhaps abolish the Democratic party, submitting us to the unrestrained rule of conservatives.

We supported Obama when he needed us, where is the President when we need him?

1. I'm not sure Obama should come
Walker is trying to make this about outside political influence.

3. He could certainly do more than issue one faint statement,
And given that this union busting is going national, I think it is entirely appropriate for him to take it on at a national level.

Not to mention the old saying, "You dance with those that brought you."

ABSOLUTELY!

I called for this last week.

Here we are into the middle of the second week, and ....nothing.

The SILENCE is DEAFENING!

6. You would think that with the future of his own party on the line,
He would take a stand and fight for this, if only out of a sense of self preservation. Then again, as I mentioned above, he doesn't seem to care about a second term. Then again, why should he? We the taxpayers will be paying his pension until his dying day. Four hundred thousand a year soothes a lot of consciences.

8. No. Good allies will do nicely.
I think Obama is too busy figuring out which intrenched interests he needs
to win the next election.
