ON EDIT - maybe the twitter poster should have written SHIPS not BATTLESHIPS.

The Italian navy is monitoring a Libyan "naval asset" in the Mediterranean close to Malta, according to a report.

The report comes after two high-ranking Libyan air force pilots fled to Malta in their aircraft, reportedly telling officials that they escaped rather than carry out orders of the regime of Muammar Gaddafi to bomb civilians. The jets arrived Feb. 21 along with two civilian helicopters carrying seven people who told immigration police they were French.

1. It is the individuals who refuse the orders to kill their neighbors who end cruel dictatorships.

2.  Lybia has no "battleships" only 2 Koni class frigates (Type 1159
So they could not have arrived in Malta.

5. I doubt they had operational battleships, but
to many people a big ship, that is not a flat top, would be easily confused.

8. Is there an american air craft carrier in the Mediterranean? That would be
a good idea to stop Gadhafi from genociding people even more. Plus the Iranians are sending ships to Syria.

9. There is almost always a battle group in the Med
so once a no fly is authorized if it is led by the US... the battlegrop will enter the gulf of sidra I suspect. Otherwise Italy will have to lead this.

11. Well they either flee (mubarak) or die (Caucescu)
he seems to prefer the latter, and it will not be an easy death, I suspect.
