Teachers under attack (HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of jobs could be lost)
EW YORK (CNNMoney) -- All across the nation, teachers are coming under attack.

Hundreds of thousands of school employees -- teachers, as well as aides, school nurses, librarians, administrators and bus drivers -- could lose their jobs in coming months, experts say.

And a growing number of governors and lawmakers are taking aim at teachers' right to collectively bargain.

Bills working their way through the legislatures in Tennessee, Indiana and Idaho would end or limit educators' ability to negotiate contacts collectively. In other states, such as Wisconsin and Ohio, public officials are looking to change the bargaining rights of all public workers, including teachers.

Can we please be honest? Go to Daily Job Cuts; compare the month of February with any of the previous 3 months. You'll see that the numbers of layoffs and business closings are seeing a massive increase, and many of the job losses are teachers and other educational personnel. No matter how you may feel about teachers or our education system, our economy is doomed if this trend continues. I beg you to get involved locally to find solutions to these problems. And for heaven's sake, stop believing the spin that the economy is recovering; it's not, and we need to base our future actions on that painful fact.

1. I give up. Let's just eliminate all teachers and jobs, give every kid a gun and get out of the way.

2. I know your tongue is firmly in cheek, but...
...if this continues that's pretty much what we'll be seeing. I wouldn't be surprised if Beck or Bachmann or (Christine) O'Donnell will be advocating that next.

5. I wouldn't be surprised either.
However...I do not think it would have the effect that they desire...

10. I feel like that's what's going on in Texas.
We're all on the chopping block; Rush is screaming how we're Public Enemy #1; we are the ones who teach the creationists about evolution and make them discuss abortion and LGBT rights; we teach on stages with hundreds of students in the audience + Texas voting to allow students to conceal and carry this week, but only in public schools = how long do I really have to live?

Actually a lot of DUers think teachers should be fired left and right just like private sector lay-offs. Doesn't matter that the number of kids isn't going down, they're just happy to see our sector collapse just like theirs. Sick isn't it?
