Any one know of an organization helping out in NZ
since the earthquakes? I'm not asking for a fund or anything, which I would google to find out, but I haven't seen any articles on my news pages which talk about aid to the NZ people. Granted, NZ isn't dirt poor like Haiti or anything, but they probably could still use some morale boosting and the physical help at any rate.

5. I heard that this morning too
Kick for the Kiwis, alway great folks while travelling. 75 dead in a recent report. Hope the aftershocks don't catch rescue personnel.
:sigh: and then there's this on top of it all;

Massive iceberg shears off after N. Zealand quake
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110223/sc_afp/nzealandquakeenvironmentglacier

"CHRISTCHURCH (AFP) – A 30 million tonne block of ice sheared off a New Zealand glacier just minutes after a violent earthquake devastated the city of Christchurch, officials said Wednesday.

The huge iceberg crashed into a lake shortly after the 6.3 magnitude tremor rocked the South Island on Tuesday and created waves up to three metres high for 30 minutes which rocked two sightseeing boats on the lake at the time.

The enormous iceberg -- estimated to weigh 30 to 40 million tonnes -- began ripping off the Tasman Glacier at Aoraki Mount Cook National Park accompanied by a loud noise which sounded like a rifle shot, a local tourism official said."

3. It depends what you have in mind...

There's always room for more specialists like engineers, medics and SAR personnel but in terms of able bodies they've got too many already, and stuff like clothing and food piecemeal is apparently just causing hiccups in the supply lines. I'd send anything like that to Wisconsin, to be honest - it'll do more good. Or, save it for Libya - It sounds like they may need it.

redcross.org.nz are taking cash donations, but otherwise we're pretty sorted...

4. Very glad to hear that
I was much more concerned with the lack of news, frankly, on the subject. It seems we're off helping out all these other nations, and I had heard little news except for the massive damage I've seen in some pictures. Yes, NZ is a lot better off than most of the countries we've seen in the news, but I think that when it comes to need, that no one is above needing some help.

When the next check comes, I'll send off a bit to the Red Cross group, but I'm mostly glad to hear that you're all doing well by most standards. Two of my old discussion group/email buddies are from NZ, so I have a soft spot for your country in my heart.

6. It's not so much that there's a lack of news
as it's all been overshadowed by Wisconsin and Libya.

Due to knowing someone dear to me in Christchurch, I've been glued to the NZ Herald site along with a couple of others, and there's plenty of Christchurch news there:

Christchurch Earthquake (news page)
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/christchurch-earthquake/news/headlines.cfm?c_id=1502981

Christchurch quake: More than 100 may have perished in CTV
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10708295

Radio New Zealand (audio)
http://www.radionz.co.nz/audio

TVNZ

The only thing I've seen so far is them getting global help from governments; I haven't seen any story asking for help from us "regular people". So, donating to Red Cross-NZ is probably your best bet :)
