We need a Constitutional Amendment setting a permanent tax rate for the rich

A federal tax rate with zero loopholes allowed that can't be messed with!

I know it would take a long time but it would put to rest all these transfer of wealth schemes the rich constantly pull in this country.

We need a new Equal Rights Amendment movement too. The American Taliban will never stop attacking women's right until it's illegal.

1. That's a really bad idea...
First of all, the setting of tax rates is a legislative function. Suppose we entered into an era where we needed to raise taxes on the wealthiest even more for the good of the country. Under your idea, we could not do that without amending the constitution again.

Like I said, a bad and, frankly, unworkable idea.

3. Here's an idea...
if you're going to place someone on "ignore", don't play cute games by trying to address them indirectly. If you can't stomach the give and take of actual debate, don't try to continue it by other means.

4. Why an Amendment?
The obvious answer is that then we wouldn't have to deal with this constant political/legislative battle. They would just be stuck with what the Constitution says (as if that's really an imprediment to them... but that's another conversation).

The problem is that the threshold for a Constitutional Amendment is much higher than simple legislation.

5. I respectfully disagree.
But your idea of a new ERA intrigues me.
What exactly did you have in mind? And what are the flaws that you see in the current version?

9. Not sure how and amendment would make attacks on womens rights illegal
It would however codify at a higher level that which is already in place via legislation and the courts.

6. I think the rich's tax rate should be tied to the unemployment rate
If the unemployment rate goes up, the rich pay a higher percentage. If it goes down, a lower percentage. This is the ultimate purpose of a progressive income tax anyway, so why not make it explicit and direct? RWers say rich people create jobs with their wealth so let them prove it and reward them for doing so. And the rich get a great deal from this: if they invest in jobs, the consumer market grows and more of the their products are sold, creating more jobs and more profits with lower taxes.

8. Rich people's taxes
Rich people make money on what is called capital gains. No work really, just sit back and wait.

The poor man makes his by working his ass off.

The poor man is taxed on his earnings, then taxed for everything else: sales, property, gas, etc.
The poor man pays more percentage wise than the rich.

And his income is taxed somewhere around 25% for his hard work.
But the capital gains tax is at 15%.

That is not fair and balanced, not at all.
