How long are we going to wait for the politicians we have elected to solve problems that they, with our compliance, have created?
As I write to you the people we are responsible for having elected to offices at every level are mightily engaged in the Sisyphus Minuet, a musical chairs show pretending to deal with budgets, deficits and everything else connected to government spending. We should call a halt to this charade and take matters into our own hands. After all, we're the guilty ones for having permitted the earmarks of greed, arrogance and malfeasance to trump effective government.
A few of us can remember the Great Depression and World War Two. In those war years, Frank Sinatra sang with the Tommy Dorsey band a patriotic ditty called "Dig Down Deep." The nation was urged to go beyond complacency and really "dig down" to sacrifice for the national welfare. Many were eager, some complained, but most Americans pitched in, worked hard, did without: all for the good of the nation. The ensuing prosperous decades have made "sacrifice" a four-letter word.
