Thank you for finally doing the right thing. Yes, I know that it's mostly just a gesture. A homophobic member of Congress can step up and defend the law in court instead of your justice department. You proved to the whole nation today that you CAN choose to NOT defend a law that is obviously a bad law. You stated your reasons well--that lower courts have found DOMA Unconstitutional, that the SCOTUS has stricken down laws that criminalized gay sex, that DADT has been repealed, and that our society's political landscape in regard to equality is no longer what it was when DOMA was signed. You have proven that you DO have the authority to take those nuances and changes into consideration. You vindicated a lot of hurting people today.

Some people claim that those of us who criticize you only ever speak up when you do something wrong--that we never praise you when you do something right. Well here's me proving them wrong about that, too.
