Poll question: Do you comment on news articles linked from DU?
Not just here, but do you join the discussion on the news sites? The crowd tends to be more hostile, and there's always a flood of sockpuppets chiming in on those sites that allow comments. We're pretty thoughtful and factual in our comments here. What if we also put these comments for all to see? Could enough of us succeed in drowning out teh stupid, or is it just too contaminated out there to even try?

3. My impression is that the vast majority of them are so deluded or bribed that it's useless
It's like trying to convince a hard-core neo-Nazi that Hitler was a bad guy.

5. News site comments tend to be as stupid as youtube
comments. Right wingers tend to comment in places where the comments never get above idiots shouting at each other. Once they get into situations where they actually have to defend their lies with facts, they disappear. There are plenty of internet sites that regularly slay teabaggers trying to insert stupid talking points. Personally,I think the posters on Fark and Reddit do it best.
