Deputy Indiana AG fired over "use live ammunition" tweets
http://www.indystar.com/article/20110223/NEWS05/102230406/-b-Harsh-words-b-Deputy-AG-fired-over-tweets

ndiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller has dismissed a deputy, Jeff Cox, for posting inappropriate comments online critical of the labor union protesters in Wisconsin.

Cox sent out a message on his Twitter account saying that police should "use live ammunition" against the protesters.

-snip-

This afternoon, the office issued a statement saying Cox was no longer employed there. The office said it had conducted "a thorough and expeditious review" after it learned of the Mother Jones article.

"Civility and courtesy toward all members of the public are very important to the Indiana Attorney General's office. We respect individual's First Amendment right to express their personal views on private online forums, but as public servants we are held by the public to a higher standard, and we should strive for civility," the office said in a statement.

5. Well, didn't know there was one.
And, I don't know if they'd care about the opinions of non-residents of Indiana.

But, I would have if I could have.

4. I applaud the Indiana AG for taking the appropriate steps
Advocating violence, which is what that Assistant AG did, is inappropriate and dangerous.

6. Good and good for Zoeller
he acted quickly and he acted properly.

I was afraid they'd give Cox an opportunity to "resign" after "apologizing if he offended anyone". The prick deserved nothing less than to be fired for his comments.

7. Definitely not an isolated incident, this one deserved to be fired awhile ago.
He was a bully who used his position in very negative ways.

Good riddance!

Cox doesn't deserve the lofty position he was fortunate enough to hold. Good riddance.

10. Maybe they should send him to help Qaddafi in Libya. He sounds
like he would fit in better there, or in Bahrain, where mowing down protesters with live ammunition has been going on for days now.

Glad they fired him. How do these sick, bullying, morons get into such positions of power in this country?

And their "shoot 'em" attitude about peaceful citizens. They need to lose their jobs. And if they actually have the stones to SHOOT, we need to shoot back.

There is no place for that sort of statement coming from a member of the law enforcement community, be it from the police department or the district attorney's office.

As my husband so astutely just pointed out, if this has been a politician in Libya making such a comment, it would have been international news.

If this man were a Democrat, he'd have a hard time finding another job. But Republicans love them some crazy (see: Sarah Palin) so I'm sure that his star will rise bright and true in the Repub party.

About Me

I'm a lawyer with a bachelor's degree in National Security Policy Studies from The Ohio State University. I live in Indianapolis, where I follow foreign affairs, defense policy, history, archaeology, sports and dance. My dream in life is to rule the world, watch the Cleveland Browns win the Super Bowl, have a San Diego Chargers jacket with big lightning bolts on the shoulders and take Emmanuelle Vaugier out to dinner at a 5-star restaurant.
