Am I the only one who gets the feeling that we're WINNING this time?
I just feel like, that, for the first time in a while, we're actually WINNING a battle against the corporate robber barons and their GOP stooges. Am I being too optimistic? I know they're pulling out all the stops but I just get the feeling that we're actually beating them for once.

1. I think so too, but it will take more than just a week or
two of demonstrations. We all have to be in this for the long haul, contributing in whatever way we can.

4. As long as we're fighting, we're winning.
They counted on not having a fight. The do things fast and in the dark, like cockroaches.

5. In Wisconsin, the fight isn't over until a stake has been stuck in all anti-union bills
Which means, my dear Buffy, there are a whole lot of vampires out there.

Time to put a tradesman made mirror in one pocket, and union plumbed water in the other.

7. sorta, but.....
the fact that we are even having this fight could be considered a set back unless there is a massive backlash against the entire conservative approach to economics after this fight is over.

9. We are actually controlling the "Message"
and we are getting the "Message" out to the public.

Here is the thing, as long as we the Democratic Party and Moderates are divided the Republicans will always, always win.

When we come together as we are doing over this issue we will always take the lead and win!!
Sometimes we have to put our differences aside and work as a coordinated team.

16. IMO, it's actually BECAUSE the national Democrats..........
haven't shown up. Right now it's the people against the corporations, personified by the Republican Party. If the national Dems get in the picture, it becomes "politics as usual".

It's being defined BY THE PEOPLE as a have vs have not overreach by the haves. They look like the bullies that they are. I don't want it defined any other way.

20. Great points...
Can you imagine what this would turn into if weasels like Reid and Hoyer were there to make nice with the republicans?

We'd get nothing but the usual hideous conciliatory bipartisan nonsense and urges to return to "normalcy" while the "professionals" dealt with the situation.

The dem state senators would be urged to return and, a couple of days later, the battle would be over as the "tough but fair" governor signed away all rights to collective bargaining for state employees -- forever.

Then the clowns could cut another notch in their belts and return to screwing us back in DC.

23. Lord, Warren, I hadn't even thought about THAT........
:) I was just thinking about Obama and the national Dems coming in on the side of the workers and everybody saying, "Well, I guess this is just usual political bullshit. It actually doesn't affect me." Which is what most people think when they think about politics anytime other than every 4 years. IOW, with the national Dems involved, the actual PEOPLE would lose interest.

But your weaselly scenario is actually MORE likely. God, even scarier.

18. I'm optimistic, but then I always am optimistic........
I couldn't be a leftist without that optimism. But this will NOT be a one and done. This is a battle that we'll have to be vigilant about ALL OF THE TIME until the PTB are too scared to make a move against us. And even then it's not over. The battle we're fighting now is a battle that we fought in the 30s. I don't want my children and grandchildren to have to fight it again in another 80 years, but they probably will.

WE CAN NEVER RELAX IN THE BATTLE AGAINST REACTIONARIES. Because THEY never give up.

All that said, we're winning THIS round. I THINK.

19. To quote an old Republican, before the descent into evil:
When you are in any contest, you should work as if there were - to the very last minute - a chance to lose it. This is battle, this is politics, this is anything. - Eisenhower

and after said victory, President Obama does the things he campaigned on, like the public option and getting rid of the Bush tax cuts.
