Refuse to take the union fought for weekends or any days off.

Refuse to take the union fought for vacation days.

Refuse to take those union fought for sick days.

Refuse to take those union fought for holidays.

Refuse to to take the union fought for 8 hour work day.

Refuse to take your union fought for time and a half and overtime pay.

Refuse to take any union fought for medical treatment should you be injured on the job.

That'll show us!

6. You beat me to it.
How can we forget WHY we needed unions in the first place?

Because all those church-going capitalists didn't really care if a kid died in a slaughter house or coal mine. "Tsk tsk. How sad."

2. i think they think employers gave that to employees out of the kindness of their hearts.
i swear!! now, i can admit that I have never known a world without these things as a given, but I know they are a result of unions. but i think these folks think that they just are that way and unions had nothing to do with it. it's all that brainwashing...

btw.... you can add sending your kids to work in the factories too.... no more child labor laws.

4. I think I am typing up your list (It is a great one)
And mailing it anonymously to the Tea Bagger neighbor here.

We share a fence line.

He is adamant about all of the Tea Bagger talking points, but he is also supported by his wife's pension, which came to her through the union seeing to it that dieticians like her are affluent in their retired years.

I've lived & worked 2/3 of my life in Right to Work states, so I know how you feel reading that list.

Strength in numbers is the only way to gain fair treatment as workers.

Not only does it show real-life conditions for workers at that time but it showed how, even then, big business ran roughshod over Americans to increase their tills.

You can download it free from Project Gutenburg (or read it online) for those that have never read it.

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/140 (Just FYI, this is the "edited" release not the originally published 36 chapter published in 1905)

I'm grateful that all I had was a cold - although I did have a few fun moments of fever induced delirium. Did you know, according to my hallucinations, that there's a DVD series called "My Kitty Can Read"? :D

14. Well, it certainly would increase their marketability in the jobs market
Although with the economy that Repubes have voted for (vote for Repubes, get a Repubican economy), what you've described is essentially what they have.

Two 25-to-30 hour a week jobs. Not full-time, so no health insurance, no sick days, no vacation days. Days off are scattered randomly through the weeks and are inconsistent and uncoordinated with your significant other. And you never, ever reach the point you get time-and-a-half.

How unions help all workers
by Lawrence Mishel and Matthew Walters

Unions have a substantial impact on the compensation and work lives of both unionized and non-unionized workers. This report presents current data on unions' effect on wages, fringe benefits, total compensation, pay inequality, and workplace protections.

Some of the conclusions are:

Unions raise wages of unionized workers by roughly 20% and raise compensation, including both wages and benefits, by about 28%.

Unions reduce wage inequality because they raise wages more for low- and middle-wage workers than for higher-wage workers, more for blue-collar than for white-collar workers, and more for workers who do not have a college degree.

Strong unions set a pay standard that nonunion employers follow. For example, a high school graduate whose workplace is not unionized but whose industry is 25% unionized is paid 5% more than similar workers in less unionized industries.

The impact of unions on total nonunion wages is almost as large as the impact on total union wages.

The most sweeping advantage for unionized workers is in fringe benefits. Unionized workers are more likely than their nonunionized counterparts to receive paid leave, are approximately 18% to 28% more likely to have employer-provided health insurance, and are 23% to 54% more likely to be in employer-provided pension plans.

So fuck off tea partiers, or give up everything the unions GAVE you. K&R.
