To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

Phone services are mostly down in Tripoli. Internet only by satellite. Airport in a mess. Nearly no airport staff working, no �real� passport control. Fighting around freeway into Tripoli.

Embassy quarter of Tripoli very calm.

43. Libyan air force has 600+ air vehicles. Libyans have called for a no fly zone.

A no fly zone is necessary to keep Gadaffi from shipping in more mercs at the minimum. It may not be currently used against ground forces (since we're hearing a lot of pilots defecting / disobeying orders), doesn't matter. The threat is real.

I don't support NATO.

Benghazi was attacked on Thursday. Our ambulances on the ground counted 75 deaths the first day; 200 on the second; then more than 500. From the third day, I had no more morphine or medications. In the beginning, the forces of repression fired on people in the legs and abdomen, then in the thorax and head. Then we saw mortar shots and rounds of anti-aircraft fire, directly into the crowd. A carnage. People were burned to death, shredded into bits. Altogether, I think there were more than 2000 killed; two hospitals of more than 1500 beds each were filled to capacity.

I think the most alarming factor is the possible holdout in the south, a potential fallback position. Not that it would save the regime but Gaddafi could do enormous damage if he manages to hold out somewhere for a few months.

Other than that it seems as if the tide is rising around Tripoli.

HEAT for hardened targets and regular HE for soft targets.

It is generally not good enough to handle modern Armor but is light and as shown in the video easy to move while a simillar caliber regular field artillery piece would weigh tons.

My opinion, it's not graphic but it's very sad. Young kid is shot and his friends carry him away. He dies in their arms.
