Wisconsin: Madison Mayor Cieslewicz is 'furious' at Scott Walker

Wisconsin: Madison Mayor Cieslewicz is 'furious' at Scott Walker

by Barbara Morrill

Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is "furious" that Governor Scott Walker told (who he thought was) Kansas billionaire David Koch, that he had "thought about" planting troublemakers in the crowds of protesters outside of the state Capitol:

"But I find it disturbing that Governor Walker apparently considered disrupting the protests. A transcript of a faux call to the governor from a man he believed was conservative icon and top Walker donor David Koch finds "Koch" offering to help Walker out by, "planting some troublemakers" among the demonstrators. Walker's reply:

'We thought about that....'

"Really, Governor, you thought about that? The governor of Wisconsin actually thought about planting people in the crowds who might turn these peaceful protests into something ugly? <...>

For the governor of our state to suggest that he even considered disrupting these peaceful protests is a serious thing. We need to hear more from him on exactly what he meant. I hope the media will keep after it."

And besides calling out Walker for his disgusting comment, Cieslewicz praised the protesters for their "high civic engagement and peaceful protest" and lauded the fact that they're organizing crews to clean up after the half-a-million or so protesters that have come through over the past ten days.

Cieslewicz's comments come on the same day that Madison's Police Chief Noble Wray called on Walker to explain his "troubling" and "unsettling" comments.

2. Scott Walker is showing the State he doesn't care about deficits, or safety...
His Agenda is more about him and the Koch brothers....

I wonder if Wisconsin voters who stayed home last year regret their complacency. Also, do those independents and Democrats who bought Walker's bullshit have buyer's remorse yet?

There's a lesson in here for Democrats and left-leaning independents for 2012 and beyond.

5. Walker doing a lot of back-filling
He claims that his commment (taken out of context, naturally) was more to the effect that he decided all by himself not to start a riot. But when you read the entirety of his comment, he decides not to go along with the ersatz overrich motherfucker because he's expecting the protests to fizzle out any time, and because politically it might come back on him. There's not a single word about public safety or any similar consideration. Walker decided not to start a riot because the aftermath might bite him in the ass, not because of any high-minded respect for the ideals of democracy.

12. Exactly my problem with it
He's fine with the idea of sewing chaos, and people in his state getting hurt, as long as it doesn't put political pressure on him. Never mind any innocents getting caught up in the violence.

Amoral is the best I can say for his comments.

7. the nice thing is, this revelation makes it much more difficult for them to actually do that
If any violence or other troublemaking does break out, the press and public will know where to point the blame :)

10. Yes indeed. You just dropped your drawers in front of the world, walker.
It's a good thing when the other player gets cocky and then tips his hand. He fancies himself "reagan 2.0." And that's his prime motivation - and preferably on workers backs.

9. There were agent-provocateurs in the crowd at Kent State before the May 4 killings
It also turned out that the FBI had its own informant and agent-provocateur roaming the crowd, a part-time Kent State student named Terry Norman, who had a camera. Mr. Norman also was armed with a snub-nosed revolver that FBI ballistics tests, first declassified in 1977, concluded had indeed been discharged on that day.

18. We are forcing them to think.
They must weigh their words carefully, which will force them to think about they're saying out loud. That means that they have time to think about how it will reflect upon them, should the information leak out.
