Letterman Just Made Rand Paul Look Like A Complete Ass.....
he took him to school and at the end Letterman said something to the effect that he doesn't know what Paul said but I'm sure that it was wrong. Somebody has got to post the video on this interchange. It's really precious.

Rand really shouldn't do interviews like this because the guy is a complete doofus.

10. Saw the youtube, doesn't show much
They discussed Rand Paul's wearing jeans, Rand Paul said Al Franken was his mentor, and he took a cut at Letterman, which seems to have annoyed Letterman.

16. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder, I saw a polite debate, both handled themselves well
Both sides handled themselves well. Letterman made a pandering comment about Wisconsin teachers should be paid $178,000 a year each, the audience clapped, but that was demagoguery at work. Paul on the other hand was very careful to switch the subject when it came to tax cuts for the rich - and Letterman left him off the hook because he didn't have the numbers figured out (I do, I could have given Letterman the argument to counter Paul in a jiffy).

And there was no discussion of foreign policy, where Rand Paul is anti war, and I bet Letterman would have had trouble if Rand Paul mentioned that both Hillary and Biden backed the Iraq war.

Overall, it's an interesting debate, worth watching. But they weren't real swordsmen at play. I've seen real debates between left and right wing, both educated and loaded with numbers, and they can be a lot bloodier. I myself engaged with Hannity a few years ago, and left him foaming at the mouth. :-)

5. Letterman concluded an interview with Bill O'Reilly in much
the same way a few years ago: I don't know what you said but it's gotta be wrong.

7. Not quite. What he said to Billo was...
"I have the feeling that forty percent of everything you say is crap."

6. He's a fucking liar.... he (like all rethuglican liars) bundled the cost of benefits in
with the salary to give the average teacher salary. The average person does not add that figure for their own salary, so they are thinking that whole $80-whateverthousand is actual pay. I hate liars!

9. Letterman is a good interviewer. I was wondering about all the Repubs he has been having on his show
lately. Couldn't listen because Paul was not answering questions, wandering all over the place, totally a frickin looser.

11. Well, Paul told Letterman
that Al Franken, his chosen mentor, had advised him not to do the Letterman show.
I guess he doesn't take advice, even from someone he chose as an adviser.

15. Mentors in the Senate are not chosen, they're assigned.
As far as I've been able to determine, it's nearly random.

13. I couldn't bear to watch the interview,
but when they came back from commercial, Dave said, "I don't understand why working people have to lose their collective bargaining rights while rich fat guys get tax breaks," which sums up my feelings exactly.

17. They don't
The issue of collective bargaining rights is a boogey man. The government has an option, it can refuse to pay as much, and union workers can strike if they don't like the deal. What the Wisconsin republicans want is to break the unions, without going through the negotiations or facing strikes.

If the unions are responsible, and they usually are, they'll agree to pay cuts IF the government can show it doesn't have the money to pay them. Or maybe they won't, in which case Wisconsin government will shut down, and the people of Wisconsin can decide what they want to do next.

I would let it get to the point where they either settle or have a strike, and see what happens. Republicans are too knee jerk about these things. And Democrats do have to remember the money has to come from somewhere.
