Pets - lopsided relationship
not my opinion. opinion of young scrooge writer
There are already plenty of people out there who will take your love but refuse to give any in return. There is no reason pick up feces with a plastic bag in order to get involved in a lopsided relationship.

I should admit that pets are not completely useless. They do teach kids about death. Which is an important life lesson, though it could probably be taught for much less money.

So there, you caught me. Pets are good for something. They serve the important function of making children cry when they die.

Merry Christmas little girl. Enjoy finding your dog motionless in the middle of the road in three months. That lesson is your real gift.

3. Pets aren't for young kids, anyway.
Kids who are too young to understand that animals feel pain, too, are the main reason so many of them (pets) are abandoned. So I have the solution; wait until your kids are old enough to handle it.

21. Since I had pets when my kids were born, they have been around animals
all of their lives. They have to be supervised, of course, but even very young children can be taught to be nice to animals. I think it helps to develop their empathy. When they are older and can help care for the animal it helps them learn responsibility.

24. Then I stand corrected.
Some parents look at pets as toys for their kids. You're not one of them.

Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 12:23 PM by Dover

They too can get runover by a bus or cause all manner of heartache. And who would voluntarily
change a diaper? :sarcasm:

17. I think so too. As a big fan of dark humor, I know it takes a very, very deft hand to do it well.
This guy makes lots of typos, if you catch my drift.

11. pets make you feel a little safer :)
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 12:24 PM by stuntcat
well for some people they do anyway. I know I feel safer with my cats around. I live in a busy neighborhood and when I'm home alone there's always so much noise.. sirens, helicopters & traffic. All day the cats lay in the chairs right near the doors, and when I look at them yawning or washing their butts then I feel like I'm safer. If they get up and run then I know someone's come too close.
I think a lot of people with dogs feel safer too. It does help to have them around, I swear. I'm glad to scoop their litter :D

Reminds me of a similar scheme to get page hits from one of those fashion magazines a few months ago, that published a column bitching about all the disgusting fat people on TV.

22. Perhaps he will be visited by...
The Ghost Dogs of Christmas, but instead of teaching him a lesson they can just gnaw on his limbs. Every bad thought he has had toward a pet can thus be returned to him through the bites of the Ghost Dogs of Christmas.

Maybe I can sell the idea as a movie.

23. History/ Biology flunkee who thought he had a neato idea...sounds similiar to
some of the smart ass freshman my wife deals with in the library that read Marx for the first time and make these sweeping "OMG I am SOOOO much smarter than everyone else!!" statements.

He'll be embarrassed by this probably within 10 years.

He is right about one thing - 'exotic' pets tend to be more of a hassle than it's worth. My friends have quite a few exotic pets, and I used to live with a girl that had a wolf hybrid. I know this is anecdotal, but wolves do NOT make good pets.
