Libyan Revolution Tweets, Day 9, Part 1

Libyan Revolution Tweets, Day 9, Part 1

Previous Day 8 threads: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x502125">Part 11

The world’s 100 largest arms dealers, excluding Chinese vendors, sold weapons for $401 billion in 2009, with US vendors remaining in first place

Threads for previous days are in my journal

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

France and Qadhdhafi
(thanks Lama)

France and Qadhdhafi
"For decades, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has been an excellent customer for the French armaments. After taking office on 1 September 1969, following the coup he led against King Idris I, Gaddafi waited a few months to buy 82 Dassault Mirage 5's which are actually Mirage IIIs modified to conduct ground attacks. In June 1973, things deteriorated a bit after Qadhafi invaded the Aouzou Strip in Chad. It took less than six months for France and Libya to find grounds for reconciliation in the form of a sale of 32 Mirage F1-C interceptors. "

BREAKING: Eyewitness account from doctor in Libya
Posted on February 25, 2011 by admin

...

Firstly:
A massacre and a crime against humanity are currently going on in Libya. There has been Deaths of at least 50-70 civilians arriving to different hospitals in Tripoli every night. I am a Doctor at Sheffield Northern General Hospital and have personally seen bodies with bullet wounds to the head, neck and chest.

Eyewitness reports from people I have spoken to personally are that Security forces are turning up in hospitals, threatening doctors and forcing them to treat pro-government supporters and neglect demonstrators, at gun-point. There are incidents where blood bags have been ripped prior to transfusions so that injured supporters don’t receive treatment. There are cases of sabotage. Corpses are being removed from hospital before being identified and not being returned. There are reports that ambulances carrying the injured are being stopped and patients being executed.

    ...

Secondly: There is no civil war in Libya. Demonstrators are shouting slogans supporting Benghazi describing them as “cousins” and calling for the bloodshed to stop. Everyone I have spoken to from the east, west or south wants Libya to remain united. Nobody wants Gaddafi to remain in power.

Thirdly: These demonstrations are not based on any kind of Islamic extremism or anything religious. They are purely calling for a tolerant, secular and democratic government that is free from corruption.

    ...

Doctor that arrived from Tripoli a few hours ago

9. I have read that a march is planned on Friday to Tripoli
People from all over Libya are said to be planning to join it and hoping for one million people. I would be very afraid of what he might do should that many people arrive in Tripoli while he still has control of the city and the weapons.

They are so brave ~ I hope no more people die before this over!

11. Me too Sabrina. That whole bit about "Under My Umbrella" doesn't leave
me with a good feeling. Not after his mercs and Kaseem troops were caught with gas masks.

They're brave indeed. I posted that prayer on my FB page. I hope many people, those who pray, will pray for them too.

That is very scary. Praying for them all. I wish there was some other way to dislodge him. I hope someone can reason with him as apparently they were able to do with Mubarak in the end. Even if he plans to die, he should consider his children, the ones who are not involved, and his grandchildren. They will be pariahs sadly, if he commits genocide on his own people.

It was Kasseem's troops that were caught with them, not mercs. Video of very angry people showing the world the gas masks above.

His sons should have left, if they could not stop him. Now they will be tried for war crimes. There is no more partying on the Riviera for them. It's amazing how fast it all happened, from Tunisia to Egypt, now this.

People are saying that on Friday Gaddhafi will fall as both Ben Ali and Mubarak fell on Friday.

I hope so.

12. Sermon: It all started with the young man Mohammed Bouazizi,
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 05:23 AM by Catherina
live Friday sermon by Al Qaradawi from Qatar just now:

Al Qaradawi: Some people don't realise when someone has died, as was the case with King Solomon (after termites ate his stick).

The People have now realised that they can tell their leaders "No" & "Why?". Now the people have been awakened.

It all started with the young man Mohammed Bouazizi, & ignited the spark of the Tunisian revolution that moved elsewhere

Egypt's Foreign Minister was asked about the revolution he said "This is silly. Egypt is not Tunisia. This won't happen here"

Now, the so called Saif Al Islam says the same. "#Libya is not Tunisia or Egypt" & yet we see the tribes turn against them.

Even their very own has turned against them, Gaddaf El Dem has sold Gaddafi, it was his right, & his duty to do so.

I tell his officers & Abdul Rahman Shalgham (envoy to UN) that Libya is greater than Gaddafi, advise Gaddafi of the truth. (to his circle) Tell Gaddafi that the people no longer want him, tell him to leave, leave the country for the people.

Whoever heard Gaddafi's unstable address in which he accused his people of taking hallucinogens 13 times

They say it is actually him & his family who take hallucinogens. He called the revolutionaries "rats & rodents"

((Sorry this is funny. I can't type so fast ))

He's unstable. "Even the name of his country is weird. He calls it the Greater Jamahiriya something something"

#Libya fasts before the Islamic world & stops fasting after it. I asked them what's the deal, they told me we have no power.

This man is weird. He wanted to edit the Quran so it addresses people instead of the Prophet Mohammed.

The people of #Libya have been burdened by this man who has himself been burdened by delusions of grandeur.

In one single day on June 29th 1996 he killed 1,200 prisoners, how can you do that, even if they were indicted.

This man is a liar, some people lie so much that they believe their own lies.

#Libya has a small population, it should have been a heaven, look at Doha & Dubai & Abu Dhabi & Sharjah (yay) & Kuwait.

The oil is taken by Gaddafi, there is no budget review, it all goes to Gaddafi.

Husni Mubarak is poor compared to Gaddafi, he only had 40 to 70 Bilion dollars, Gaddafi has 120 billion dollars.

((I have never seen people laugh in a mosque. What a pleasant sight))

This is how his sons can spend as they wish, buy what they want. But the Libyans have now said "NO"

He calls his people rodents! He is the rodent. He calls himself a fight, are these the virtues of a fighter? Mercenaries?!

He takes the Libyan people's money & pays it to mercenaries to come attack them, form their own money.

They come & attack women, women in their own homes! Are these the virtues of a fighter, of an Arab, of anybody!

Women screaming from their balconies "You dogs, leave!" Is this a man!? Forcing himself on people, people who hate him.

I have issued a Fatwa, this man should be killed. He has massacred people, & to stop him from burning everything.

He said "I will fight to my last bullet" He used napalm against the Green Mountain, he will use chemicals weapons again.

That is why we must sacrifice this man to save the entire country. Who can come close to him, kill him, I am responsible.

I don't think the people around him can hear me, or understand, they don't understand history.

Some asked me, "You must be careful, you issued a Fatwa, he may kill you, be careful" I will not change, I travel alone.

He is weak & I'm strong. He worships the chair. He will die for power, he is the weakest man I have ever seen in my life.

Gaddafi has fallen. He is finished. He wrote his own end. They said he killed 2,000, he deserves to be killed for one.

Gaddafi has left to the rubbish bin of history. History will sweep him to its rubbish bin like other despots.

I promise you, like I promised your brethren in Egypt when Mubarak spoke, from here I promise that he will leave.

I promise you that the revolution of February 17th will prevail. The people of #Libya has changed from the inside.

I believe in this victory because I believe in God.

Abu Darda'a said "Beware the tears of an orphan & the prayers of those who have been wronged". They will haunt Gaddafi.

Gaddafi, you will be gone & those with you too. I advise those around you to advise you one last time then desert you.

We are expecting good news from Libya. I can almost see the victory with my eyes now.

I advise my brothers in Libta to allow these mercenaries to leave, they are poor, give them the security to leave.

Talk to the State Security people, they are Libyans, they may listen & change.

Iraq: Police Allow Gangs to Attack Protesters
Authorities Obliged to Protect Peaceful Protests

FEBRUARY 24, 2011

(New York) - Iraqi police allowed dozens of assailants to beat and stab peaceful protesters in Baghdad on February 21, 2011, Human Rights Watch said today. Security forces have an obligation to protect the right to assemble peacefully and to use only the minimum necessary force to protect lives if violence erupts, Human Rights Watch said.

In the early hours of February 21 dozens of men, some wielding knives and clubs, attacked about 50 protesters who had set up two tents in Baghdad's Tahrir Square. The assailants stabbed and beat at least 20 of the protesters who were intending to camp in the square until February 25, when groups have called for national protests similar to the "Day of Anger" in Egypt. The attack came directly after the police had withdrawn from the square, and witnesses suggested the assailants were in discussion with the police before they attacked.

"Promises by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to allow protests are meaningless when we see vicious attacks like the one on February 21," said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. "Iraqi authorities should hold police who allowed this attack to happen accountable."

Scores of demonstrations have taken place across the country since early February, mainly focused on the chronic lack of basic services and perceived widespread corruption. Since February 16, security forces have killed at least five protesters and injured more than 100 at demonstrations throughout Iraq. Armed men have also targeted opposition groups and media. In Sulaimaniya, assailants set fire to multiple buildings of the opposition Goran ("change") party and the headquarters of a newly established TV and radio station that broadcast video of the protests.

35. This is what we have brought on those people. It is a crime of
huge magnitude, they were so much better off under Saddam Hussein.

I don't know why HRW thinks that the Iraq police could be any other way. WE trained them. And Manning reported their crimes of torture, and was ignored.

Libya: UK 'Paid Officials To Evacuate Brits'

Steph Oliver, Sky News online

The UK Government paid Libyan officials to allow Britons to be evacuated from the violence-torn country, according to Sky sources.

VIDEO

Sources have confirmed that substantial payments were made to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's regime in Tripoli to evacuate British nationals from the capital city.

It is believed that cash was exchanged to speed up the evacuation process, but it is unclear how big the payments were.

...

The announcement comes after the UK has been widely criticised for delays in evacuating Britons from the unrest.

So, was it worth it after all? All the money in the world
is not worth what they did to the people of Libya. And now instead of making money, they are spending it to save their lives.

I hope they all get out safely, and I hope this teaches them that you cannot profit from a country and ignore the suffereing of the people without some day seeing the consequences of that. I don't think much of those who have been there, facilitating the Regime, however, I'm glad they are safe.

Funny, and I thought we don't negotiate with terrorists!! But they are the ones who tried to erase his past, it's all very sadly ironic in a way.

46. I know they weren't going to accept that dog and pony show
Their demands were very socialist. Demanded an end to privatization, immediate redistribution of wealth to address homelessness, poverty etc... The media, especially in the West, glossed right over that thinking they'd be satisfied with a few cosmetic changes.

Time to start a new thread. This one has too many pictures for dial-up readers.
